EDIT: New link added...hopefully it works better. AND new recording added (promises)

I finally was able to pick up the Apogee Jam for my iPad. I had previously tried using the iRig and Peavey Ampkit Link. Both of those products just made life miserable for what I need to do with tons of feedback and noise. The jam, so far, is exactly what I was looking for. I'll give a better review through my Rocker Dad site once I get some time.

I used a backing track and recorded in Garageband. I decided to not use the guitar amps in Garageband because the high gain models left a little to be desired. The cleans and mid gain stuff aren't bad. I ended up using the record out of my Line 6 Spider III 15 watt combo. Not much better but at least I'm able to get some decent harmonics through it.

Garageband is easy to use but not easy to mix with as you'll hear. Still, it was fun to mess around with this stuff while not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

I came to the same conclusions you did. The clean and mid gain tones are pretty good in GB, but the high gain tones sound like a wet fart.

I too am using the Jam, having come from the iRig. It's night and day different. I actually use mine with either Ampkit+, or with GarageBand, using my Pocket POD.

As strange as it sounds, I actually like the POD 2.0-based tones of the Pocket POD more than the Vetta-based tones of the later stuff. I don't know why.

I love working with the POD+Jam+iPad. it's a fun scratchpad tool.

I've been thinking of picking up a cheap poclet pod just to use with the iPad.

It works very well with the iPad and the Jam. I was concerned it would overload it on the input, but with the Jam's adjustable gain, it works totally fine.

I just got the Jam a few days ago to mess around with song ideas on the ipad with GB. Pretty cool, but one minor quirk.....it seems that you have to plug in the headphones first if that's what you intend to listen with. When I first started playing around with it I was using the ipad's internal speaker. When I plugged in the headphones they didn't work. I had to unplug the jam, plug in the headphones then reconnect the jam. Not a big deal but a little weird.

Running my M4 into it and using the Torpedo PI Free plugin. Haven't yet tried the recording out on my TBR5 but the tone absolutely slays the crappy garageband stable of amps.

EDIT-getting a timeout error on the link.

Oh another thing is that the latency is pretty much non-existent with a Mac. I was using it into my MBP, and running GB with GuitarRig. It was pretty damn awesome.

What's a good drum machine for the ipad that lets you export? Good amount of kits, etc...

I've tried several times to check out the clip - the web server is always "too busy". I'll give you a thumbs up in anticipation that it will sound good

Seems to be back up now...intermittently...I've also added a new recording.
