This guitar is causing MAJOR gas. Some have complained about the changes, but 60's slim-taper neck, 60's-style pickguard, and '57 Classics? WORKS FOR ME!! I think Gibson did this one right. Think I'll sell off one of my Les Pauls, and have me one - SOON. I'll then have a Les Paul, Flying V, Explorer & SG.. What the hell, it's only money, right?

Love the look of the new SG's! I have always been a big fan of the smaller pickguards. Might pick up one of these in the near future myself!

I agree... my Candy Apple Red Sgs have the small guard...

Rosewood. People hate on the baked maple, but I bet the vast majority wouldn't know the difference.

Depends which model. Some still have baked maple. As for the maple, I always liked the old maple fingerboard les paul customs. That said, when I was a rosewood board Gibson, I want a rosewood board Gibson. There are way too many awesome models from the 80s and 90s when quality was great that can be had for really reasonable prices...damn near cheap on the used market now.

It makes zero sense to go for alternate source woods if you don't want them. Additionally, these same guitars are will be worth more. I see it all the time. Certain models that were only a few hundred bucks a few years ago are now more like $1100-$1200 used now. These guitars would average half that used before. They are still out there though, but in a few years they won't be. In a day when even '80s les pauls are starting to rise, the rest are starting to go with it.

If the baked maple guitar was $450 I would say, no problem...but they can cost as much as $1230 new. You can find '90s Standards for $600 if you look and they are way superior. Granted, it isn't really fair to compare a new price to a used price..but then again I really don't see the point of even buying the new one if I can get a dead mint one that is equal or better for half the price.

I don't even think I paid as much for that baked maple for my Candy Apples and they are as good or better and stupid rare. I do see your point though about the wood itself. I have nothing against it and would certainly play a guitar with all sorts of would, but I definitely weigh different things when I buy guitars.

Just saying, but quite a few have baked maple. Even the lower-higher end (if that makes sense) has it.

I've been eyeing the left handed version of that one also. I grabbed a 60's tribute sg with p90 s that I absolutely love poctured below. It has a unique slim profile neck slimmer than ANY of the other sg necks and its my favorite. The guitar sounds like a piano, so resonant and alive.

Been holding off on this standard and the future because of the different neck spec, just not sure ill like them .
