One thing I spec'd out which Jackson seemed to forget was a zebra in the bridge- it came with a black one, so I had NYC's best tech, Norio Imai, install a zebra. The old growth ebony was a solid uniform black and the grain was so super tight it looked solid. These days all the new ebony is different, light and must be stained but never achieves the solid black color of old. Also it is porus and grainy. The original boards not only look solid black but we're solid and smooth like a painted surface if that makes sense.
