I have owned all the equipment in this diagram at one point over the last 3 years. I took the last year off the equipment merry go round to work on my playing, theory and trying to decide what I want to do with all of this in the future. I also had a really hard year with closing down my business and other family issues that came up.

Things are starting to look up, I am taking care of a few of the last obligations I have and so I have decided to put together my dream rig for the upcoming year and I am working on acquiring some of the items already. I am hoping by early next year to have this finalized and be playing with a group of guys who I played with a couple of years ago. This rig will be for playing out live, small venues, outdoor venues and for recording at home as well as just for my sheer enjoyment of programming the effect units and coming up with cool guitar tones and having a great time while doing so.

The pedals in the loops are still up for debate, they will most likely be all drive pedals. For sure a Wampler Paisley and some type of tube screamer variant. I like phase in front of the amp sometimes, so possibly a phase pedals. I am working through this.

I have never put this complex of a rig together, if anybody sees something incorrect or have suggestions of how to make it better that would be appreciated. I have seen some of the rigs that have come through here and I know that this is not a complex rig compared to those.

Thanks for looking and any feedback. You can see the image below, or click on the link to view a .PDF of the rig for better resolution.

Looks like a very solid rig. So all dirt on the "floor"? Some dirt boxes I like are the Menatone King Of The Britains and Big Tone Music Brewery Six Of Swords. Old green Sovtek Muffs and Small Stones are fun.

Are you using the Eventide for time based stuff or how are you splitting up the processors? You could trade for an Axe and GCP or All Access and eliminate the splitter and line mixer. Not trying to pick away at either of the other units, but anytime I can shave 4 devices to 1 I consider it a win.

I have had an Axe FX and I am just more of a fan of the Eventide coloring. Just personal preference for me. All dirt will be from the Fish Preamp, except where I want to run some low gain stuff on the Fish and color with some pedals, also have the pedals for occasions where this setup is pure overkill and an amp is supplied. I have an old small board that I can take the pedals out of the rack at anytime to run in front of any clean amp and just throw a delay at the end for when that is what is needed.

Processors are run in parallel with the dry signal, the buffer/splitter goes mono into each processor and each are fed to the line mixer. This way I can run the Fish straight dry no effects anytime I want for the most pure unaffected tone. The G System is just a great foot controller and I like some of the delays for what they are, the verbs are not bad and overall it offers a lot for the costs.

If I was going to use the Axe FX I would go the straight route of just going to FOH and eliminate all of everything on the layout. It is good enough and would work and most people watching us play would not know the difference, heck it might even sound better. This is for me and I have always liked Bogner tone as well as a good Cameron Marshall. Those are the two most favorite tones of all the ones I have heard over the years. The Axe FX I had could pull of a lot of great tones, the effects are stellar but I had certain things I did not like overall with it. I would love to check out the II but with all the drama around it I would rather just stick with this layout.

I am really not looking for alternatives in effects processors. I am mostly wanting input on the layout and wiring of the system and good drive box recommendations for some great low gain settings. On my list are:

Wampler Paisley, this is a definite that I am getting.

Tonefreak Abunai
Wampler Plextortion, though I think the Fish will get close enough to this without that stomp.

Suhr Koko Boost, two boosts and a great buffer.

Rockbox Boiling Point, lots say they cost too much for what they are, I have had one in the past and they have a nice gain taper with amazing range, and they are dead quiet in higher gain settings. Well worth the money in my opinion.

Cusack Screamer v2. Not sure about this as a good solo boost option or not.

Thanks for the input, hope I answered your questions the best I could. I appreciate you taking the time to give me feedback!!

Yeah man I completely get where you are coming from on the fx routing. Essentially w/d/w in stereo. That's pretty intriguing. Makes a lot of sense for a live setup. Even one miced cab will translate to the board. What cabs are you running with this? I agree that the Fish is a great foundation for any rig. Would love to have all of that stuff laying around.

Cabs depend, will have at home for recording a simple Bogner 2x12 OS Cabinet. If everything works out and the group gets back together my best friend and other guitar player has about 6 Marshall cabinets with V30s, and Scumback M speakers. Different assortments. He also has a Splawn 4x12, Elmwood 4x12 and some other cabinets out there laying around.

Our last place we jammed was a small church for a youth lock in and we had the luxury of running 4 -4x12 cabinets. I ran a 100w Cameron Aldrich Modified Marshall while he ran two Elmwood M60's. Needless to say those kids were floored, they had never heard anything quite like that. It was a lot of fun and loud as can be. Most cover bands playing bars do not get that luxury LOL.

I would love to have it all laying around as well. Like I said I have a few small things I am finalizing and the Fish is a deal I am working out. It will be a long road and until then I will be playing what I can, when I can. For practice I just use Guitar Rig and a laptop. Works for working on theory and learning songs. I do not feel it helps with technique however because you do not get the oddities you have to deal with in regards to a cranked tube amp.

Thanks again for your feedback!!

Great looking rig, very flexible and capable of awesome tones.

From your diagram I do not think you need the mixer, a line out box like a HK Redbox should work and make things more simple. But thinking yeah you have the G System as well.

I would think pedals and Eclipse and ditch the G, go simple w/d with 2 2x12s.

I will look again tomorrow.

I totally understand what you are saying Scott. The G Sys is really the core of the rig. I figured a good MIDI controller would cost the same as a used G System. Plus I like the G System for a Midi Controller based on durability and overall design. After you think about the wash on MIDI pedal board it also adds the 4 loops for my pedals to bring in and out with MIDI. I would have to purchase a GRX4 or something. It will power the 4 basic pedals I will use so no buying a pedal power for that. It gives me some cool delays and verbs that are very different from the Eventide and it gives me some decent modulation effects and tremolo, etc... I figured without the G System I would pay out another $1200 just for items outside of the MIDI board if they were bought new and the G System seemed like a good solution to me. I have had one before and I was able to get it to work very well with a couple of different amp heads so I figured between a preamp and power amp it should be even easier.

I thought about just running the Eventide after the G Sys but I think the split out into the mixer will be better tonally. However this is some new territory for me so I am only going by reading here. Thinking of getting the RJM Mini Mix, so the 4 pedals, the mini mix and buffer splitter can all go in the rack on slide out pedal board. That way the floor on stage all I will have going to rack is one cat 5 for G Sys and one guitar cable. Clean and tidy.

After you look again let me know what you think. I am very curious and open to any opinions anybody has to configuration as well as things I may have overlooked. I also figure once I get started with this type of setup then other items may be needed to fight ground loops, match impedance, etc... I will go slow once I get started and hope for the best.

Thanks for taking time to view and give me input, it is very appreciated!

bump for more input on wiring and suggestions for using a Line Mixer, what are some good line mixers? I am thinking the RJM Mini Mix to put in the rack pedal drawer. Small and I have confidence in RJM products. Any other options?

Hoping this will give you some helpful routing ideas: The 1st diagram is utilizing a preamp/power amp setup like you. Take note as to how the dry signal is routed.
