I don't think that's right. Last time I sold something it was around 8%. No chance it was 20.

Wow, really? I will have to speak to him about that, perhaps he is trying to gouge me. He volunteered to do it free of cost but I told him he could take 20% for himself and then he said it was 20% for fees. I will have to investigate this and look at eBay.
Thanks man!

Turns out the sports cards I collected as a kid are worth a lot of money. I hadn’t thought about them in many years and assumed they were basically worthless. I thought they stopped making baseball, basketball, etc., cards. But it turns out I have some valuable cards. And some autographed cards also.

My friend said they need to be rated. I guess they say the condition of card and confirm it’s not a fake? I don’t remember cards getting rated in the 80s.

My friend sells tons of stuff on eBay and said he would sell them for me, and get them rated when he does more of his. He then told me eBay fees are now close to 20%!! Whoa!! I haven’t been on eBay In at least 10 years but I remember the fees being around 5% I think? That’s crazy they are at 20%!!!
Just checked, it is 12.5% for fees now. That’s still a lot. eBay is gouging hard these days.
I looked as well; for gear it's 5.85%; for your trading cards it's 12.35%. If you sell something for 7500 or more an additional 2.35% gets added on. Still far lower than 20. I'd be wary of him telling you 20% since he may be trying to keep more of a 'fee'.

I have sold nice amps, guitars, pedals and other things on Ebay over the years without any problems, but it has been well over a year since I sold anything. With high dollar items I have normally waited for Ebay to offer very low seller fee deals. They used to message members those offers pretty often.

I had something similar. I had a large collection of screen prints that ended up being worth a decent amount. I Sold many lately. I didn’t have to get them graded because they’re pretty self authenticating with how they’re made. But cards and comics need to go through the grading process if they’re worth real cash. Those grades are basically everything in terms of market value.

Yes, this is true. At first I told him to skip the grading and the he showed me cards that were the same, but one was graded and one as not and the difference in price was ENORMOUS! Makes ALL the difference.
