2x12 cab Horizontal vs Vertical

Tone wise I didn't really think it made a difference unless your using a thiele ported cab. If your by yourself (no bass player or guitar player on your side of the stage) it doesn't matter. But one of the bands I play with the bass player is on my side and he uses a 8x10 verticle. If I set mine horizontal I can't hear shit so I set in verticle. I personally like verticle anyway. With horizontal I always had to set my rig on a stand or amp case.

For my new Kemper rig, I'm definitely grabbing one of the vertical Mesa 2x12s. Had one years ago and loved it.

One side of the stage... One 2 x 12 either vertical or horizontal.

Both sides of the stage, one vertical 2 x 12 on each side of the stage in stereo--HUGE sound!!

i've got both horizontal and vertical mesa 2x12s, with v30s in them.

they tend to sound the same. part of me thinks the horizontals sound like theyve got a bit more bottom to them, but maybe thats just because they're closer to the floor on a hollowed out stage.

i prefer the vertical 212s because they are definitely easier to lift and move around for me, but i'm a little person and need all the help i can get!

I have both, the vertical 2x12 sounds a little weird live but I only use it for practice not live. Live I only use 4x12's.

Horizontal with a slight platform.

Just my ol' standard back in the day.

I put my open back 2x12 (Legacies) on top of my closed back 2x12 (V30's)Horizontal cabs...

That way I get full frequency from he Legacies, (And my Drummer get's a little bleed out the back), and the thump of sealed v30's on the bottom.

AND I can carry all this shit and fit it in my Mustang!

I prefer the horizontal 2x12 cabs, but turned on their side.

The Mesa/Boogie 2x12 cabs look ugly to me.

Get the CAA 2x12 and you can use it either way. I use it both ways depending on the amp/room/stage. It's also the biggest sounding 2x12 that I've ever come across.

Vertical for me hands down. Much easier to hear live without increasing stage volume.

vertical live

playing at home, much better low mid and bass response on its side.

i have a rivera ported q212. mids and low mids are good vertically though, just boomier and more pronounced when i'ts on it's side.

vertical all the way. better to vertically arrange drivers than horizontally because of column effect.

"When you start stacking boxes something else comes in - the column effect. Point sources in phase stacked up cause a radiation pattern that is fan-shaped, wide horizontally but confined vertically. The longer the column the greater the effect. Placed side-by-side the effect is rotated 90 degrees so that it is narrow left-to-right but fans up and down (+/- stage and carpet), and in most venues this is not desirable."

i use two forte S?V cabs right now. sound killer.

Sometimes I wish I got a few of these, and regret buying secondhand 4x12 cabs & changing the speakers in them.

I used the vertical one live for years and it worked great. Much better for hearing yourself than a horizontal.
