2x12 for a MarkIV

I'm considering on downsizing my setup by trading in my Mesa/Boogie 4x12 Stiletto cab for a 2x12 cab. I want to run the 2x12 with my MarkIV head. It will run with a 2x12 combo amp sitting on top.

What 2x12 cab would work well with the MarkIV, that has a really chunky, tight punchy sound? Ideally it would sound similar to my other 4x12 which has a pair of EV 12S 200 watt speakers and a C90 Black Shadow (and a V30 which I want to get rid of...).
It must run at 8 ohms. Stereo not necessary.

When you say chunky AND punchy the first thing that pops in my head is a Fryette Fat Bottom. I have been running my Fat Bottom 2x12 for years, and it has handled every amp perfectly while staying, like you want, chunky & punchy while being tight as hell.

Avatar Contemporary with EVL12L and an MC90

Cool thanks!

EDIT: Hang on, can I get the Contemporary with the EVL12L and MC90 already loaded?

I hope I can get Avatar cabs locally. It would be best if I can trade in my Stiletto cab for the Avatar.

Thanks too for your suggestion. I wish they didn't change their brand name though.
What speakers are in your 2x12 cab?

I just checked- a bloke in Frankston sells Avatar cabs. That's interstate so still going to have shipping costs. If I can trade in my Stiletto cab and then the shops orders in the Avatar from him, well that might work.

Now to check Fryette/VHT.

I love the 3 Avatar cabs I've played. A Vintage 2x12, a Contemporary 2x12, and my Contemp. 1x12. The Vintage looks and sounds great, has this openness to it that made it feel really great. The Contemporary has more bass than the Vintage, IMO. My 1x12 puts out a shit ton of bass, more than any other 1x12 I've ever heard. Not in an overbearing way, it just takes what your amp gives it and throws it back at you.

Search "CaseyCor" at YouTube for some clips of my rig.

Ear Candy Buzzbomb....hands down, my end all be all cab.

I think a bogner Oversized 212 cab would work nicely. The V30's may not be tight enough for you, so you might want to look into MC90 or CL80 speakers.

Have you thought of just getting a Mesa thiele 112 with an EV? Those are great sounding cabs....

Been waiting two years on mine. Tim's a fucking crook and has more excuses than Kellog's has Corn Flakes. I turned him into the FBI for interstate fraud. Reminds me of someone else I know.

Ive heard TOO many problems about purchasing his cabs new, that I will probably never buy a new one. I got mine used. Its really unfortunate because the cabs are fucking incredible, IMO. I know a lot of people were pissed because he built one for Joel of KSE in a month, and others had been waiting for 8 months or longer to get theirs. Sorry you had to be one to deal with this nonsense. I hope you get it from him eventually, or at least get your money back.

I think you will notice a significant difference going from the mesa Trad to an Avatar. In quality and sound.

I would just get a Mesa Recto 2x12, pull the 2 V30's and put in your EV and MC90 the load the 4x12 with the V30's and sell it for $600.

I wouldn't buy one new, but a 2x12 Buzzbomb loaded with Mesa MC90's sounds amazing for a Mark 4.
I run my Mark 4 into this cabinet, or a CAA 4x12 loaded with MC90's.
I have 2 Fryette/VHT FB 2x12's also, but the MC90 loaded cabinets lend themselves much better to the Mark series amps IMHO.
Like I said, if you can find a used one, get that. I would not send that guy money.
Or, you can look into the Port City 2x12 and load it with the MC90's
The Mark 4 sounds better to me with the MC90's over the EVM's.
I have a Mesa 2x12 with 2 EVM's and a Mesa 4x12 with 2 MC90/2 EVMs, but they both weigh a ton.

+1 on the Bogner cab. Love mine and matched very well with the Mark IV. All of my Mark clips at http://netmusicians.org/ were recorded with that cab.

I've used a number of 2x12s with my Mark IV and they were all excellent. Right now I'm using this PC OS 2x12 and really love how open it is.

I'd trade you my Mesa 212 for your Stiletto cab. :D Too bad shipping would kill for both of us...

The P50Es. I have yet to hear a speaker that I like more than them. However I did really like the Uberkab, which while I hate Celestions, it sounded freaking awesome.
