I thought they came with an EV in the bottom??blackba":2si9k10l said:^ What speakers do you have in that cab?
I had a metal grill 212 cab just like that with 2 MC90's. The top portion was opened. I vastly preferred my Mesa boogie halfback 412 with 2 MC90's and 2 EVM12L's (both sections sealed). The Mesa halfback 212 with MC90's was disappointing, always wondered if I would have liked it better with an EVM12L in the bottom section....

I'm new to this forum and wanted to jump on this thread as I'm in the same scenario - trying to find a 2 x 12 for my Mark IV B short head. Right now all I have is 1 Mesa Thiele 1 X 12 loaded with a C90. It sounds great but I just got the Mark IV last April and this is all I have used. I am close to buying a Recto 2 x 12 but this thread is making me re-consider. Before heading towards a Recto 2 x 12 I was just thinking of getting another Thiele C90 and running 2 of them? From what I am reading it sounds like these Thiele Cabs (or c90's ) might be better suited for the Mark IV - as opposed to a Recto with V30's. Obviously to each his own...
PeteJt - Are you not wanting V30's cause they are not as tight and punchy?
Not to hijack this thread but I am new to this is a sense....new to matching speakers to my liking.
Thanks!

guitarobert":33divoem said:Is that a regular size Port City 2x12 next to the OS 2x12? If so how would you compare their tone? I'm stuck between the OS and regular.
I have a Mark V that I run in Mark IV mode, but I also have a MC90 loaded Thiele, MC90 loaded 1x12 openback, and a V30 loaded Recto 2x12.
The MC90 loaded cabs are more articulate and clearer sounding. They have more highs, more lows and more midrange. They are much faster reacting.
The Recto 2x12 is a darker, smoother sounding cab. It has far less top end sizzle, de-emphasises the pick attack, and although the V30s produces less bottom end than the MC-90s the Recto cab produces more bottom end than the Thiele does. It's also a little slower in response, which gives a slightly bigger feel to the notes/chords.
I generally prefer the Recto 2x12 for when I need a thicker, beefier rock sound or a darker metal sound. I prefer the MC-90s for when I want a more cutting tone. I also like mixing the MC-90 loaded open back 1x12 with the Recto cab as they compliment each other really well.
