4x12 cab top speakers are louder?

The 75's sensitivity is 3 decibels shy of the V30. I'm sure that's what you're hearing.
The speakers are in an x pattern so efficiency wouldn't be the issue.

The proximity of the sound generator to the audio receptor could create a perceived difference.

one could be 16, while the other is wired for 4. the 4 ohm cab will be quieter.
 Not in my experience...the 4 ohm cab will be deeper and smoother whereas the 16ohm will be more present but certainly not louder. Anybody have any thoughts on tonal or volume differences between 4 and 16 ohm 4x12 cabs?

It was only when I was literally placing my ear to the grill on each speaker that I noticed (or at least thought I noticed) a drop in output for the 2 lower speakers

this is terrible practice, please dont ever do that to your ears and if you do dont tell me about it.

from the kind of distance, you really have no reference point and a tenth of a degree angle shift of your perspective will intensely change the way everything sounds. if you need to do this to notice a difference than you're being crazy and need to enjoy playing your guitar. there are so many things that happen in proximity to a baffle to affect what you're hearing its crazy.

Im just wondering at this point, if it is a wiring issue, and ultimately an impedance issue between the top two and bottom two speakers...how much audible difference will there be?

it will only be an impedance issue if the cabinet is not wired series/parallel like you're saying. if its a wiring issue, as in something is wired inverse polarity, it will be intensely noticeable, especially if you were shoving your ear right up to the grill. which AGAIN is NEVER necessary and please don't do that.

i have never had the opportunity to take the exact same rig and A/B two of the exact same cabinets with the exact same speakers, only wired differently, and listen critically in the exact same space. this would also assume that your power amp would drive the two different loads exactly the same by changing the output impedance. every little subtle thing does its part to effect tone, there are so many variables... without all those controls in place i think it would be very difficult to directly relate a perceived difference directly to the different impedance.

in my opinion.

What? Just kidding...thanks for the advice.

Doesn't matter. The v30's are gonna be louder.

If the effiiciency is different wouldnt that stay the same ?
Not trying to be a jerk just trying to understand and/or learn something.
I was considering putting a pair of m75's on top of a 4x12 v30 slant cab myself ala Friedman.

i think a lot of you guys are overthinking this.

first the guy needs to check his phase of the speakers.

if they check out, then it's more than likely a difference in the two types of speakers in the x pattern.

Umm, "seems" louder.

Download an audio toolkit with spl for your iPhone and test it the speakers.

Since the speakers are different sensitivities the more sensitive speakers will be louder.

The x pattern can be deceiving just measure each speaker individually.

I think your ears are playing tricks on you...

What gauge wire is in it? Thin wire could be feeding your top speakers and choking off the 2 speakers down the line.

Quite the opposite...16 gauge oxygen free, heavily insulated wire...super good stuff.
