It has been a while but I am super excited. I promise, more pics and a few clips to come later next week after she arrives. Mike sent me some pics to tide me over until next Tuesday. Huge shout out to Mike. He is most certainly the "man"!! The guy has been working while recovering from surgery. Very cool of him to do when he could easily just take some much needed time off.

Does this mean it's being fortinized? What's being done to it?

*smacks head*

of course, the cali mod!

help the uninitiated -- wtf is a cali mod?

What's it getting aside from the FX loop?

Pretty sure he's getting the Cali mod

Looks like a tube buffered effects loop, and a few component changes? What exactly is being changed?

Thanks for your patience and understanding. Please let me know when you receive your amp and of course if you have any questions or concerns

Yes, a tube fx loop added, series or parallel operation, separate send and return levels, can operate rack or stomp box effects.

The preamp design is completely changed, all new signal caps and lots of resistor changes as well as changes in the power amp and power supply. DC heaters added to the preamp tubes except the PI. Depending on the age of the amp sometimes bias and power supply caps need to be changed. Depth control added, 2 Gain controls each with a 3 way bright switch, Master volume with 2 clip circuit selection with bypass feature, normal 3 band EQ and Presence. This one has a switch added under the Presence control to change the power amp characteristics from smooth to raw and a mini switch under the depth control to change the low end response. Last but not least, P-touch labels for extra tone mojo ;)

The Cali mod is just a variation of a Jose Arredondo circuit much like this version but with some addition and voiced to my taste:

Other guys do variations of this same circuit that sound great as well
Cheers,
Mike

The Cali mod has become my favorite high gain amp ever. It beats out my old Boogie IIC+ amps, beats my old VHTUL, i like it better than the Diezel's I've played, like it better than the Bogner XTC. I've played the Soldano Avenger and SLO....like the Cali mod more.

First let me say glad to hear Mike is feeling well enough to be working, I know things were pretty rough there for a while.

Congrats on the amp, and my sympathies as I always find the hardest part of waiting for something custom is AFTER it ships to you

EDIT: and emailed Mike and am now getting those two power amp switches installed on my Cali that's in the works :D If this doesn't get finished soon and Mike keeps adding options we're going to need to put in braces to support the poor swiss-cheesed chassis

Sorry it took so long to reply here. I posted this thread and hit the sack. It is Mike Fortin's Cali mod on my Marshall JCM 800. As the man said above, it is his take on the Jose mod. Some of the main differences are the extra features that Mike offers that won me over. I have been a Mesa guy for the last several years and have been wanting a change. The Marshall tones seemed to be calling me but didn't want to sacrifice the saturation of the Mesa Mark series amps. I knew to get a Marshall where I want I would have to go the mod route. Mike's mods were a no brainer after hearing so many great clips here (Ralph, Scott, Dan).

With my amp I had Mike do the Cali mod and add an effects loop (a must for me). I just don't like delay and modulation effects in the guitar signal. I will post a review and some clips after I receive it next week.

Congrats, I can't wait to hear some clips.
I'm gassing hard for one of these amps and I kinda wished I bought a jcm 800 and just had mike do the Cali mod instead of the quickrod I have on the way.
I saw a 2203x for a cheap price and should have bought it, I'm sure it had the potential to kick ass.

Anybody know how the newer 2203 sounded modded.

Congrats on the amp. I played a Cali and it has some cool tones in there.

Congrats bro and yes you made the right choice getting the loop, I will allow you to describe it when you try it ;)

Can't wait for your clips!

Congrats Chad!
Can't wait to hear your clips when you get it.
The Fortin amps look interesting and Mike seems like a champion fella.
I'm intrigued by his Fortin Meathead.
