How different are these pickups ?

Now my explorer has 500T under the bridge , lot of guys (from this forum also) recommended me sh-5.
It's worth to change to sh-5 ?

You know , I'm asking because I read lot of opinions that 500T is very muddy etc ... pure BS . From my setup I get dark tone with clarity , but without mud ...
I know that the best way will be to try this pickup but at this moment I'm broken.

I had a 500T in an explorer and loved it. I think it depends on the guitar. But, they are difinitely not as bad as everyone would have you believe. My only complaint was that it didn't clean up well with the volume knob. I also love the 498T which doesn't get a lot of love around here. But I'm not a big fan of the SH-5. But I am a big fan of the JB. So, I'm in the minority around here as fair as popular choices.

I also love JB , It's great for hard rock but not for drop tuning ... There is little low end which is very loose

I think you'll find the SH-5 to be brighter and more scooped sounding, as well as more dynamic than the 500T...not necessarily good or bad, but simply different.

SD has a return policy that allows to return the pickup if you don't like...give that a try and see how it works in your guitar (the only way you're ever going to really know).

Good to know about this return option.

Which pots will be the best for sh-5 ? Gibson uses 300k stock. And If I must to change the pots , I should change only tone , volume or both pots ?

I'd change all the pots to a quality 500K but you don't have to. The guitar should sound a bit brighter/more present if you do...if it's already bright enough for you, just leave the stock ones in there.

the sh5 matches REALLY well with a 300k. IME, 500k in certain guitars with certain pickups gets too bright, and the sh5 is one that CAN be more brittle and biting than I personally like.

I had a 500t in ny lpc. Loved it, did eveything I needed (from blues to metal). I had a dincan custom (pretty sure thsrs an sh 5) in a different lp and I hated it. It was missing that bite I needed.

Can't stand the SH-5. Thin, scooped, and brittle.

I dig the 500T.

If you need an SH-5, I have 2 of them in new condition.

Duncan Custom SH-5 has a pronouced midrange attack, full tight bottom and good highs [balanced].

Its not scooped at all IMO.

The JB & 500T are fizzy with a spongy bottom, didn't like them.

Haters gonna hate.

exactly how my ears hear them!

I ordered sh-5 for bridge , 50 bucks , brand new from my nearest shop(sale).

I use bridge pickup 75 % of the time but sometimes I want my leads more ... fluid and smooth.
Im searching ONLY from SD pickups , I thought about sh-2 or sh-4. Whadda you think ?

I'm playing in drop C , nothing lower.

I found the 500T to be muddy with with 300K pots. YMMV.
