The 4x12 EVH cabs are 80watts and the head is 100watts. Should I be skeptical?

I could get a Splawn cab with small blocks or Creambacks. Any 5150 III users run their 100watt head through Splawn cabs please chime in.

Skeptical of blowing your speakers? probably not unless u plan on running your amp all the way up night after night..you should be fine

The speakers would be fine. I have a Splawn 4x12 that is loaded with the same EVH greenbacks, no worries ...With that being said I prefer the Splawn cab , I had an EVH cab for a while with my 5153 and the projection was not as even in a live setting , maybe I had a bum cab , lol who knows but I liked my Splawn cab better.

I've tried the small blocks also and would go with the creambacks over them if you have a choice.

What?!? The 5150 III 4x12 cab is rated at 100 watts and are made to go together with the head. And believe me Ed cranks his heads and doesn't blow speakers.

I tried the small blocks and did not like them. That's why I said to go for the creambacks over them..I have not had a chance to try creambacks yet though. I know for sure that Splawn cabs sound good with Celestions reissue greenbacks and the EVH greenbacks....I liked the Lynchbacks in there also.

The EVH speakers are rated 20watts per Celestion website.. Just seems odd that Fender matched a 100watt head with a 80watt cab. So Fender says they are 25watts?

I really didn't care for my buddy's 5150III 50w through my splawn cab. Much preferred, get this, his b52 cab.

There were smallblocks in it, and although sounded fine with my quickrod. Since, I have swapped for all governors and haven't tried his 5150III through it, but my quickrod sounds killer now. Smallblocks to me, my opinion, are too soft for my liking.

I run my 5153 stealth through Splawn 4x12 small block and creamback X pattern and a 2x12 w/ lynchbacks - both sound great.

Aren't speakers (and amplifiers for that matter) rated at where they begin to distort not to where they are going to fail?

Yes. RMS. Well not exact RMS. That's the point where the amp is most effecient I think. Marshall Class 5 for example is rated at 5 watts. But it really puts out 30 watts. EVH speakers are 25 watts. Trust me. I've heard if you email Celestions they'll say so. For some reason they advertise them as 20. The cabinet is rated at 100 watts.

I'm running my 5150 III through mu Splawn with Governors and Man O Wars and it sounds bad ass. My favorite cab i own, next to my Friedman. The EVH cab is also quite awesome, very sefined and the mids are signing. Love it too.

But right now I'm running both at the same time and it rips big time.

Im not a huge fan of the 5150III thru my small block splawn cabs, but it does sound better than the EVH 2x12 cab with whatever speakers those are

Running my stealth through a Mesa with vintage 30's. I tried the EVH 2 X12 cab and did not like it. I hooked the Stealth up through my EVH 2 X12 combo speakers and that is where the mojo came in. I think the EVH amps are best in a green back situation. I just do not have the funds right now for the EVH 4 X 12 cab. Plus I have had the trusty Mesa for over 10 years now. The splawn with green backs would be the last cab you would have to buy.

Bingo^^^

The combo rocks. I have one. Cuz the greenbacks sound awesome. Myself and Lord Toneking just said the smallblocks aren't that good with the 5150III. Take our opinion with a grain of salt, just saving you time.

What a great week! The Stealth I bought is on its way to my local GC which happens to have a used black 5150III 4X12 in great condition for $575. Is that a good price? I put a deposit on it.

I've had 2 50w evhs.....by far the best cab was a Marshall VM/Hendrix cab with the g12c greenbacks. Awesome....should have kept that cab. But the EVH 4x12 was good too, better than v30s. But if you can find a VM cab for a good price ...trust me. Great combo!
