anyone have any info or experiences with the EVH 5150 III ? i am looking at picking one up, but have read some pretty serious horror stories in regards to the amp. it seems to be a love/hate thing. i thought i would post up and seew hat peoples overall thoughts are on the amp ?? i read about them being shipped out with bad tubes from a bad batch they got during the first production run, but other than that cant find anything else.

LOL yeah some of the reviews seem as if a kid who just sold his fender frontman 15r is writing them. but others seem to great so i am gonna take the plunge, was just seein what info was out there. i hear the 2nd run of these amps is much more improved so we shall see

Yeah man, don't worry about it, it's in the top 10 of amps I'd LOVE to own, seriously. Maybe top 5.

They suck. Anyone that has one needs to send it my way ASAP for proper "disposal."  I'd even be nice enough to pay for shipping. :D

Quit talking about these amps! I want to buy one cheap next year. :gethim:

C. Because it's made in Mexico

Mine is #422 and love it (first run from 2007). It is VERY versatile. I've done some searching and it does seem they blow preamp tubes more often and earlier than other amps. The first run had a combination of Electro-harmonix tubes and Sovteks. The later run are JJ's. I have heard people blowing preamp tubes early with both generations. I would recommend keeping a few extra tubes around, especially when gigging. I could go on forever about this amp but if you do a simple search here on rigtalk you'll find a lot of info. I couldn't recommend this amp enough, GO FOR IT!

Not really sure why you would call it complicated, it's just three channels with gain/volume bass/mid/treb each and independent presence knobs. That's about as basic as I can imagine a full tube amp can get, short of it being an Orange. A Mesa Dual Rectifier Road King is a complicated fucking amp.

Not complicated on use, but how the amp is built (so I heard)

hopefully i get one soon. i dunno if the original deal is gonna go through or not, but if not i will find one. this has became a mission to own one of these amps !!!

I own one and I really don't dig it. Mine is WAY bright! Also, the one I have had a few bad/loose tube sockets that caused channel three to cut in and out. I had to have all of the tube sockets replaced...I'm still not crazy about the tone...'personal taste I suppose.

well mine is on its way, should have it sometime next week ... thanks for feedback/info guys

 are people really saying it sucks cause its made in mexico?  some people's kids :dunno:

I just replaced the preamp tubes in mine today. Mine is a later model serial # 02217 and I bought it used about a year ago. I've used it pretty heavily for gigging and rehearsals over the last year. I just had a preamp tube go bad on me so I went ahead and replaced all of them. It came withh all JJ's in the preamp and power section. I went with Sovtek and Elecro- Harmonix which were in the intial release of the amp and now the amp sounds much warmer and less trebly. I'm really diggin it.
