I picked up a busted and beat 5150 and fixed her up. Whatchall think, and what do you think she's worth? I'm an amp tech, but not much of a player, and looking to get an AXE FX II to satisfy my playing at home needs. I love the sound of this thing, but can't crank it cuz of my living situation. What do you think is a fair price for what I've done here? Details below.

Re wrapped in mojotone carbon fiber tolex.

Painted clear coated corners, handle caps, grills, etc.

Designed/printed new faceplate. (the old one was beat, so I stripped it, designed a new one, primed it, printed it on a digital flatbed, and clear coated it.)

Added bias mod

Added choke mod, and rewired standby.

swapped log presence pot for lin presence pot. (the log one does nothing until about 2 o'clock. Lin starts @ 11 and gives a nicer sweep on the crunch.

New knobs.

New JJ tubes. (pre, and power)

Added a 12 volt power supply hooked into the primary, and red LEDs.

A couple other mods to kill the fizz.

I'm on the fence as to whether to keep this beast, or broom it. I love it, but I don't play out, therefore, have no use for something this beefy. I have an or-15 for my tube amp cravings, but I would trade both for an axe FX 2.

What do you all think I should list this beast for???

600 ish. 750 for the cool factor/mods. Some people dont care for mods to increase value and new tubes is maintenance imo.

Looks cool as hell though and I'd list it on the higher side.

That's the coolest thing I've seen in a while....

:rawk: :rawk: :rawk:

These amps are BADASS stock, but a choke and bias mod puts them over the top
Plus the VERY cool cosmetic upgrade...
Yeah, list it on the high side for sure. $700 - $800
Jeezus, if this was up on my local Craigslist, I'd be on my way over right now to pick it up....

That’s just badass! You could probably make some good cash just making custom amp faceplates!

^^^

Does look really awesome. I'd rock something like that on my amp.

I'm calling bullshit on all of these price listings.

A nearly stock circuit 5150 will go for no more than $500 on the used market. A 6534+ in mint condition won't even sell for $600 in the RT classifieds as is.

I put my 5150 II up for sale with the bias mod, choke, EL34 mod, MM OT, full cap job, and it collected dust at $900 shipped. The transformer is worth $300 alone.

The other modifications mean nothing on the used market with these. They're such a common amplifier that unless your name is either Fortin or Rhodes, you're not going to get a price increase.

I thought $600 was fair and on the lower end of the forum spectrum. There have been several in the 900-1000 range stock that have sold on reverb.

Right on. Thanks for the opinions.

As I said, It was really ragged out and the screen resistors were blown when I bought it. I just wanted to bring it back to life ya know.

Thanks for the opinions. I wasn't sure if the faceplate was a good move or not, but I was bored, and I dig it.

I'll probably get around 6-650 for it I think. Around here, They're either everywhere, or nowhere. I've seen em go for 400 - 700 depending on how many are around.

Fwiw I like your face plate better. I would totally pay you to do my Bogner up if you were local lol.

Thinking about what was said about just simply making them to sell. Not sure how that would work but if possible to do I bet they would sell. They look super cool but you kind of have to paint the chassis right?

Most amps have a removable metal face plate held on by the nuts for the pots and other panel mount stuff. You don't have to paint the chassis, just have to take the panel mount stuff of of the face and remove the plate.

I sanded my OG plate down and used it, but with something valuable like a vintage marshall or fender, I would mic and redraw it, and CNC a replacement one, do it up, then just swap them.

I'd put a half power switch on it, it definitely makes a difference in volume, despite the decibels only being "negligible" as advertised on the forums.

Also, the negative feedback resistor can be replaced with a 100k or even 250k pot for a much more versatile resonance/feedback circuit.

I removed the low input and replaced it with a 3 way "hair" switch/diode configuration
