Just grabbed a 5150 II today. They don’t show up very often in Denmark and grabbed it quickly.

it’s sounds monstrous. But was wondering what the differences were?

5150 - low mids
5150II - high mids
Blackie pretty much nailed it in a nutshell.

5150 - Big/wide sounding low end with some sag, more low mid focused, more aggressive highs/presence, more gain
5150 II - Tight but still big lows, less sag, more upper mid emphasis, a little smoother up top with less gain and a tad bit more clarity.

These are the Red Channels, green channels I'm not qualified to comment on because I never go there.

Recently sold a 6505 and own a 6505+ currently and I agree with what's been stated above.

I absolutely needed a boost with the 6505 and gain on the amp dialed back to 9-11 o'clock...anything above 11 o'clock was unusable gain/compression mush for me.

6505+ I don't need a boost (still sounds good with one) and gain is usable up to 1 o'clock for me.

The newer EVH 5150 IIIs are close in design to the II. The orginal 5150 is the only one that is much different than the rest.

Yeah thats true the original 5150 is prob the most different sounding out of all the others including the EVH 5153 heads. Its the meanest and most raw , more low mids as others have said.

I agree with all the above. You can make a 5150 sound closer to a 5150 II with an eq in the loop to cut some low mids and hi pass the bass around 60 to 80 Hz. However the mark II will never sound like the original 5150
