hey all,

hate to create such a generic thread but I must ask a "what guitar" question

I'm looking for a new guitar to play blues, blues rock and just straight up rock. I love the look of strats and tele's (although I have always owned a les paul or sg) and I love the way they play and sound.

The obvious choice would be a nice american strat, which is all well and good but this telecaster has caught my eye -

I'm going for a (dare I say it) john mayer style tone mainly, but a typical blues/blues rock tone will do just fine (you know what I mean!)

the only worry I have is that the telecaster is too "pussy" if that makes sense? I get told all the time that a telecaster is only good for country, but surely that cannot be true........can it?

anyways, any help in a guitar choice would be greatly appreciated, and anything up to and around the 1000 GBP mark would be a realistic goal.

I have a 52 tele, and rocks it pretty well, they will surprise you,

Tell Jimmy Page that! He sold alot of Les Pauls playing a Tele. ;)

I love strats, but for hard rock, I'd say a tele beats strats out for bridge pickup balls, IMO. But if you want John Mayer tone, a strat is going to be a better choice by far.

My buddy uses a stock Highway 1 Tele for death metal.

Seriously. They're just as ballsy as you make them.

cheers guys.

I honestly dont know which to go for at all! I like both guitars, argh I hate decisions!

Do what I did and get both. I like my American hard tail strat better than the MIM tele.
