Played one today in GC Seattle...

Ghosts... all i can say is ... ghosts, man. Its like gibson trapped the spirits of guitar players past in these things. Best guitar I've ever played. I played an R8, a white custom, and a new blue jean custom pro next to it. '57 had next level mojo-- blew the others away. When you play on the lower strings it'll vibrate your hand its so resonant. Are they all this amazing or was this one possessed?

I haven't played one but I'm sure they don't all have that mojo. You must have ran into a good one, they're out there.

I also have one. The tone is phenomenal and it really is the best Gibson I've played. A few weeks back I tried one of the Axcess LP's and it felt like total junk after gigging with the VOS.

I owned a 57 goldtop and it was great, for years i have been saying the custom shop stuff is on a different level than the regular usa stuff.

yup. Killer guitars. Almost all the historics and customs are amazing guitars. I'll always have one in the stable. I think the R4 Oxbloods are the cream of the crop as far as mojo in a gibson is concerned. Wraptails have an amazing tone on them. Here was my old oxblood. Neck was too big otherwise I would have kept it forever:

They can be very hit or miss. Although after owning (and keeping a few ) of the 2011 Historic LPs... 2011 was a great year all around as far as build quality, tone, and playability go. I'd look for a nice 2011 R7 GT.

Mine was a winner the moment I un-cased it. Guys I bought it from know me and they know guitars... Jim & Janine from Route66 Classic Guitars - I told 'em I wanted a '57 darkback goldtop non-VOS, I got the 4th one made in 2010. It plays incredibly well - it's my No.1 out of my Lesters...

Just sayin', when you find that special one, GET IT!!!!!

The only LP that I want to own is a killer R7 GT...just don't have the time or energy to search one out....oh well...maybe one will find me, at some point
