Anyway you could blend the Uber and BE?
I mean… it’s possible, but I’m not really into blending amps (especially when it’s only double tracked). I just kind of prefer the personality of one amp and a guitar panned either way, layering up just washes out the character for what I like.

Aside from that, I don’t really like the phasey sound you get from a single performance through more than one amp.

Man, I knew A was a Marshall circuit just didn’t know which, b I knew was the Uber with the low end and presence since I’ve reamped mine so many times, same with c the recto, d the boxier mids but similarities to c screamed 5150. Was totally lost after that.

The krank sits real well, might have to try one since you can get them fairly cheap.

I 100% agree. To my ear, blending amps or speakers washes away what makes each one special & leaves you with average.

Fun game and I enjoy playing, but it's a grain of salt, so nobody should really use these sort of shootouts as representations of the amps, as these are simply one specific setting of the amp's EQing/gain stages. Some of these have a very wide range of tone available. Also we all know how some amps pair better than others with a specific speaker cab/sim.

I do need to grab a Rev 1 at some point for nostalgic purposes if anything. I remember going to an ozzfest in the 00s and had a working pass, everyone at hcaf assumed bands were using 5150s but a lot of them were using kranks, even when I showed picture proof people still said they were using 5150s lol

Yeah 100%. Honestly with recording the speakers/cab/mic/position have WAY more influence so if they were changed around things would sound totally different. Just a bit of fun, and I enjoyed that the character of each amp came through well. I don’t think any amp sounded bad, it’s kind of personal preference and just what works for any particular song/riff

I agree any of these with some tweaking could work, it really depends on tempo and tuning and all that as well

Ha there was a period where krank’s were in a ton of albums. I think they’re great sounding circuits with a kind of shitty PCB layout. Defo JCM800 inspired with some tweaks

Attributing the tone of a recording to just the amp is like attributing the lap time of a racecar to just the engine.

Also a lot of high gainers are more similar in tone rather than different. Especially compared to what the internet would have you believe.

Tests like yours really highlight this :)

Amps are:

A=JEL modded Marshall, on no NFB mode
B=Uberschall
C=Recto
D=5150
E=Krank
F=BE100
First listen through I thought the 5150 was D. I cheated and saw that JEL is A, but didn't look at the others. Knowing that I could guess the rest. B and C were easy, they are huge sounding. I prefer in order D, A, F, E C, B.

It’s interesting about B since my Rev 2 Uber doesn’t sound like like the clips.
