I have a couple of 212 cabs sitting around not being used. Sell the cabs? Hell no. Buy more amps. I have clean and classic marshall covered in spades with a Roland JC40, a Fargen miniplex combo, and a Friedman Smallbox. I don't have really high gainers. Was looking at the two small heads in the title. I know which way I'm leaning but I am unable buy a pick without asking a forum for their opinion. Metallica is about as heavy a music as I ever play so keep that in mind.

Never tried the 6505.
I've had the 5150 Lbx around for a couple of weeks. It came with a defective effect loop so I sent it back and added some money (quite a lot more actually) to get a Pink Taco and live an happy life.
The 5150 has a very nice sounding blue channel and an insane red channel, the amount of gain on both is simply ridiculous, but it's amazing how it manages to maintain clarity and definition even at inhumane levels of saturation.
It sounds pretty good at low volume, although you need to be very precise with the control or it'll get super loud very fast even on the 7w mode.
Overall I don't find I miss the 5150 that much, I also discovered that my DV Mark Multiamp does a pretty good job at nailing that kind of tone (but it doesn't have all the gain of the III) so I just plug that in if I feel nostalgic.

I had 2 6505 minis crap out on me within 3 weeks each one so I went to the 5150 LBX and it screams....also the 6505 has this weird thing that when you turn the nobs for the clean channel it affects the lead channel, and it broke up quickly at a little volume, but It did have a clean channel, the crunch channel was horrible IMHO, now the LBX has no clean but it sounds waaay more alive and the notes jump off the fretboard...Ive had mine since they came out and no problems with the loop or anything, Ill never buy an amp from China ever gain for the record....

Hey man I just wanna add that for clean to lead I wound up grabbing an ENGL Rockmaster 20 head with a power soak from 20 to 5 to 1 watts, I use it on 5 watts with the master volume and it has a great mid gain tone with a boost for solos and the best clean channel on any amp Ive heard on a head that size, reverb as well, grabbed it for 799 out the door from MF...

I was leaning towards the 5150. It's hard for me imagine an amp with as much stuff built into as the 6505 built at that price point not having some issues.

So the ENGL is working well so far? I'd take your word for it being that you have owned lots of the same amps as I have and still search for better tone.
The ENGL blackmore although not obviously a lunchbox, is the current target for me. They seem to make great stuff.

Compared to the 5153, you like the ENGL better tone wise? The power soak is a nice feature.

I have one for sale. It really is a great amp. Super tight, and very versatile, for two dirty channels. It'll cover all rock territories with ease. I'm gassing for a Mini Rectifier, or else I'd keep it!

I agree with the guy a couple posts up. I'll never buy another Chinese amp, period. Nothing but bad luck.
The EVH build quality is top notch.
