I needed two single coils to fill two holes in a strat pickguard.

Don't usually play with singles as I am a high gain metal guy.

Wanted to spend the least I could so went looking at gfs and decided to go even cheaper and order chinese ebay pickups.

I wound up buying artec pickups same as the gfs brand.

I decided I couldn't live with ceramic if I wired them up, so I splurged and went alnico. Fiber bobbins too.

Had to buy an entire set for $23.00. That's about $7.33 each.

I chose flat poles based on aesthetics .

I almost didn't wire them up lmao, figured what he he'll if they sounded alright I would use them when demoing clean sounds while recording.

Well I have to say these sound fucking amazing.

Not for the price but at ANY price.

If you told me these were fender custom shop I would believe you, seriously.

I have NOT had the same luck with cheap humbuckers unfortunately. :aww:

Glad you had a great experience.

As much as I love high end gear, I'm beginning to wonder if it's really worth it. Most companies, if not all are using a CNC these days anyway. I think a lot of it comes from myopic pride.

That being said, I still want a Bogner XTC

Well with a single coil it's pretty easy to sound good.

Real alnico rod magnets check. Real fiber bobbin check. Scatter wound by machine, check.

All the ingredients are actually there.

With the humbuckers a lot more is in play, baseplate and screw metallurgy , the relationship between each coil is the make or break. Delicate balancing two resonant peaks etc...
