Hey folks

I'm for some reason wanting a 7 string to play that low b from time to time, although I'm an old guy (53).. I play mostly 80's music, but love Steve Vai, etc, and think for some of the stuff I'm doing on my originals I'd like to have that option to record with.
Anyway, would you recommend a Ibanez for instance from the factory such as the Iron Label as a decent guitar that I'd just use from time to time, or should I just build a strat style guitar? I'm considering the later as I can get what I want, but it would cost more I think. Also, I'm wondering how hard it is to get bodies and necks for instance from Warmoth or USA Custom guitars or such with a 7 string ?

Thanks in advance and any suggests are welcome..

I got one of these and you cannot go wrong.

My choice of course.

Just buy an old 7 string, get it out of your system.

This is a good suggestion imo.

Otherwise If you do go all out, I recommend reading up on extended scales, inharmonicities and use a 7 properly. :D

I like having one around too. This one's mine. I have the CrunchLab and Liquifire in it and I upgraded the switch to a Dimarzio and CTS pots. I'd prefer one with no trem but this one is really good and I'm afraid I wouldn't find another one that I bond with. Warmoth is limited in terms of their 7 string stuff. I think they still only have one neck and I'm not in love with the bodies either. Tons of options out there of the rack any way.

Thats the RG1527MGW, GW for Galaxy White. It's a sparkle white, very nice finish and it plays soooo smooth, the maple neck is really great, has a nice feel, not bulcky at all.

They don't make these anymore but you can find them used here and there. Hard to beat for the money, I got mine for $800 a couple years back. I know they went up since then but still worth it IMO.

Buy an old Japanese Ibanez RG. Very nice guitars for not much money. The 1527M is awesome.

But for a 7 string Strat-type, check out Rondo Music's Agile Sentinel.

Thanks guys.. I think I'll look for an RG at the local stores and pawn shops first.

I have a bunch of IBZ 7s and recently had a custom Perle neck made for a 1999 RG7620. I'm really diggin' it. The neck was made to 7620/Universe specs, but has the strat head and maple board.

Did you add that pickguard to your 7620? If so, I did the same to mine. Mine is just stuck on with 2 sided tape - I ordered the guard with no holes. I cant tell from your pic if you have screwed it down or not. Mine is a repaint kind of an off white pearly dealio so our guitars look very similar.

This is an RG927 from the Premium line. I think the white one in this thread is a 1527.

Mine is screwed in. It was made by Perle. I have another 1999 7620 with an added pickguard (can't remember who made it) in this thread. That too was also screwed in.

Thanks man. What do you think of the Premium? Do they still use Edge bridges? I don't know enough about the newer bridges.. The Zero stuff what ever it's called. I've alwys loved the Low Pro Edge though as I have on my old 92 Jap S series.. Plain looking guitar but so comfortable and sounds great with the setup it has and just a joy to play! Compared to a strat as I have one of those too, and I have a Charvel that I love and Gibbie I'm making, etc,.

Thanks
T
