Had a carvin CT7 for years and never really played it, it just felt too weird.

Now listening to newer heavy music and decided to try again, and I'll be darned.......I like it!

In fact I just picked up the ESP Ken Susi 7 with an evertune bridge. Pretty Nice.

what do you got?

25.5

26.5

27 scale?

what tuning?

so far I am in standard B to E.

trying to decide what gauge b string that i want to use for drop a.

My poll option wasn't listed.

I have had a few 7's, always ended going back to 6 and sold them all. I had a 25.5" I believe 7321, I had a 27" Agile which i thought was very nice for the price tag and then some random knock off 7.

I have nothing against them and sometimes I think they can be better but they're just not my thing. I tune pretty low as it is on the 6, definitely don't need 7 strings to be heavy and just don't need another string honestly. I would always end up writing "djenty" type stuff on the 7 and couldn't break away from that.

I messed with drop A, Standard A, Drop B and believe it or not what sounded REALLY good was drop G. I played with this band for a little while and when I first heard the guitarist say they tuned to drop G I thought are you serious? What in the hell? But then after a few weeks I really started vibing with that.

If I ever do get another 7 it will probably be a 26.5" and tuned to drop G.

Had several, sold all, I like how lower tunings ring out on a 6 string and found myself playing less and less 7 string range material.

one thing to consider for me, is that I think that 6 and 7 string guitars sound fundamentaly different , even if you drop tune a 6 to the same tuning as the low of a 7.

i think it is how the 7 string pickups sound different.

anyone else feel this way.

I feel there seems to be less clarity in the lows on the 7 string pickups

In regards to your last sentence on clarity.

That is where the scale length and string gauge comes into play.

Scientifically, the lower you tune the longer the scale and thicker the gauge needs to be to obtain the correct inharmonicities.

Not even sure if that last sentence is worded appropriately but that is the reason why.

I like the way a 7 string picks up single note stuff, but dig the way 6 string guitars tuned down sound with chord voicings.

I had a Schecter Blackjack C-7 and it was a great guitar, but did not play it as much as my 6-strings.

Example: Sevendust use 6 string guitars tuned down to B and B flat.
But if you're going more in a Djent, Deftones direction, a seven string is your ticket.

It's all about what you're writing and using the tools needed to get what's in your head to the world.

If you can't do it with "6" strings then your name should be Caitlin.... (drops the mic and walks off the stage)!

ummmmm

who is caitlin?

inside joke maybe?

7-strings inherently have a 6-string built right in, so I don't play 6 string guitars now. Their necks feel tiny and I inevitably end up reaching for a note that isn't there.

I've tried to gather 7-string versions of the classic 6-string guitars. An LP7. 7-string Strats, hot rod Strats, and superstrats.

I've had some extended scale guitars, both 26.5 and 27" scales. I don't tune any lower than B, so I didn't really need the extra scale. But it was hard to notice the extra length too.

Yep, got rid of all of mine. I tune down to Drop C on all my 6's no problem. I like the shorter scale length as well.

I have a Jackson Misha mansoor ht-7 on order. If I had to have one guitar it would be a 7 string. I feel most comfortable playing guitars that are in standard tuning or a half step down. I also prefer not to drop tune 6 string guitars as well. The 7 string does away with all of these issues I have. I can have standard tuning as well as drop tuning and it opens a whole new range of possibilities. 7 strings for me have to be in either drop a or drop g# though. Having owned a 7 string in the past I would recommend the 26.5 scale if your going to drop tune for intonation and tonal reasons. I also like lower output pickups and a flatter radius helps the 7 string sound and play the best.

Dude that Misha model looks tasty! I really wish I could afford Mark's PRS at the moment.

i have a schecter c7 hybrid coming with 26.5

will be curious if I will still be able to get my shred on

I come from les paul 24.75 scale mostly

Had a bunch, sold em all to fund/trade for other things, including 8 strings.

At the moment, I'm really enjoying an Ibby RG baritone 6er, tuned to open B with a 28" scale. Nice fat neck, sounds badass, really dig it especially for what it cost me.

On the hunt for another 7 though......I've gotten to the point where I have literally every other guitar I want, except for a decent 7 and a good 8. Not rushing things, but I'm looking.

I like 7s with an extended scale.....25.5" is not a good scale for me on a 7, as I usually drop tune it to at least drop A if not drop G, so it's gotta be at least 26.5 if not more.....I also like a decent amount of tension, so along with drop A I usually got 10-52 + a 70.

Front runners include for my upcoming 7 purchase include an Ibby 2127FX as I'm a hardtail guy, or one of the LTD SC baritones.

i have an esp stef7 and a ibanez 7620.
i play them about half as much as 6 strings. planning to build a multi scale neck thru 7 this year.

I've had 2 Ibanez UV7BKs and an ESP NT7, but never really got into the 7th string and eventually sold them all. They're fun to fuck around with for a little while.

I have a Schecter C7+ and an import Conklin. I can still do the shred stuff on the Schecter, but the neck is really round and fat. When you're in a 2 guitar band 7's come in handy when your trying to play it different than the other guy. One guitar an octave lower is thick. Bad part is when you accidentally hit a low B during a clean chord part. So sour.

Since 2008 unless I'm playing acoustic (hardly ever) I play 7s. Before that I had 6s for almost 35 years.
