I just picked up a couple of 70s Mighty Mite 1300 Distortion pickups. After some USPS issues, they got here today.

Had a chance to install one in my strat relic in place of the Super Distortion I had in the bridge and I'm liking it a lot. This one measured 13.49K. Similar to a Super Distortion for sure, but better to me - a bit more output and more sparkle on the top end. Very Nice! Here it is in the guitar:

Sounding really good through my W/D/W rig with the new 50 watt Bottle Rocket Prototype! :D

steve i have the MM1400 and 1800 and love em!
the 1800 is the same as the 1300 with solid poles.
and the 1400 is like a hot PAF 9K ceramic ,very VH I sounding much more so than the 1300 or 1800
really like these , are you experiencing any microphonic feedback or excessive noise?
I potted my two because of that,

How would the Dimarzio Super Distortion compare soundwise.I believe the Dimarzio Super II is like the mighty Mite 1400.

Cool!

You are killing me with that Bottle Rocket picture!!

Very cool - I'd like to hear the 1400, but I think these 1300 are pure early EVH in my guitar...

No noise or feedback with these. Look at the condition they are in for being from the 70s...

All you have to do is read the text of my post between the pictures. Covered it there...

yeah definitely give a 1400 a go if and when you get a chance, it is the 1300 tone but more PAF like
so it gets that more clear, open tone he had,not as smeary and has that attack and screams! but in a real good way :D

So the 1400 is under 9K, huh? Interesting...

why not just buy newer mighty mite pups? I trust they still make these?

PS- I personally find the suepr distortion could use a little more sparkle on top.

They don't still make these. They make other pickups, but not these...

The Dimazrio Super II specs are similar to the 1400 mighty mite.

Just go with a Dimazrio Super Distortion for the Van halen 1 sound and be done with it if you cant find a mighty mite 1300.

I'll second that one.

Steve, I LOVE that guitar!! How much did it cost you overall? When are we going to see Henning Guitars? If you built more guitars like the one you just built, I would get one for sure!

Let's see...

Neck and Body - $750 or so
Floyd - $100
Tuners - $50
Misc parts, logo, etc. - $150
Pickups - $75
Paint and relicing - $425

$1550 or so... Could have been done for under a grand though if I hadn't specified such a crazy birdseye neck and roasting, etc...

We are NEVER going to see Henning Guitars.  Seriously - I know just enough to build a bolt on guitar. Most of the time I have to take them to my luthier for fret work and setups...

Oh... and speaking of another build - here's the Frankenstein I built from Musikraft parts that I'm converting to a strat relic. Looks like this now:

I'm going to have MJT strip the paint, and redo it like this in Fiesta Red.

Kinda a shame though - the EVH paint job is amazing - beautiful high gloss job, not like Ed's at all. Anyone wanna buy just the body and I'll get a new one for this project???

Steve

Love those pickups!

I've got a couple of 1300's and they just kill!

I have a current production Super Distortion, but those old Mighty Mites just have something
extra going on.

It is my belief that it was a Mighty Mite 1300 in Ed's guitar when VH I was recorded.

thats impossible since photo's show a gibson/duncan looking pickup in it right before the record was started. ;)
