She arrived last nite...had no power due to snow storm but had a little time(once it came back on) to play with her a bit

'79 JMP 2204 Kitchen Sink BE/HBE/JBE/SAT/C45/FX loop

1st impression..I am really diggin the JBE mod.. nice chewiness and deepness to it while still holding onto that 'grind' and focus that makes marshalls what they are. Jammed on this mod the most..sounds good in drop tunings, leads, chords aren't muddy or flabby.. Tight but with some sag if that makes any sense. Lovin it

My 2nd favorite mod was the BE/SAT( aimed at Jose mod)..volume drops a bit but crank it up and it's mid-focused, tight and thumpin.. I'll use the word 'grind' again..that's what it does. Plenty of gain and it's smooth and clear.. I can see me using this mod for all the VH to Skid Row and even into modern territory..I think it will sound killer in a band situation with the bass guitar providing the bottom end..this thing will shine and cut like a knife.

HBE mod is very similar to BE all be it a slight different voicing..I wouldn't say theres more gain until your crank it up and get the tubes burning..then she seems to breathe

Didn't get a chance to use the C45 much.... can say it adds some mids to make lead/single notes sing a bit more.

I did have my pedalboard hooked into the fx loop while running my wah out front. The FX loop is transparent and incredible!! Hit my Koko boost for extra volume while soloing and it just takes it over the top... 1st impression, this amp has lived up to the hype and I cannot wait to get more acquainted with her. Currently has sovtek el34's and ars 12ax7 which Im switching out asap to JJEL34's and JJ12ax7's....guessing that should round out the bottom end a bit more and smooth things out further...can't wait. Thanks to all the fellow duderz here for letting me pick their brains.. and thanx to Dave for creating this monster and corresponding with me thru the process. I am Friedman happy :D

Very nice!!!

I've always been interested in trying out the JBE. It's the only one I haven't at least tried.

Congrats on the NAD!

yep, friedman mods have this "tight but with some sag" thing going on with them, just enough of either without being loose or stiff feeling.that's something that is unique to dave's mod tone/feel which makes me love them.....enjoy the amp!

Congrats, great mods, kinda weird, my HBE has quite a bit more gain than the BE  still very tight though
I love that amp, its a keeper for sure :D

wow,i didnt catch that before...the HBE mode should have ALOT more gain avail than the BE mode, since the HBE mode is where the 4th preamp tube comes into play...should be a huge gain difference at ANY volume between the BE & HBE!

Congrats!

I'd love to give a Friedman HBE a whirl one day.

How's it compare to your PT100? Tighter/looser... brighter/darker... more/less gain overall?

Hey Mike..The JBE mod was designed for Jerry Cantrell...hence Jerry Brown Eye. It's basically a differently voiced BE with fulltime SAT on... It's NICE

Quick correction.. in my excitement I realized that when I switched from HBE to BE I was leaving my SAT on...therefore adding some gain and thump to BE... The HBE mod does have a bit more gain and different voicing..which opens up more when cranked...sorry for the confusion/misrepresentation..

As far as Wiz's ? comparing to PT100.? Bare in mind I've only had about an hr with my Friedman, but I find the JBE mod very comparable to the Ch2 of the PT100(which I ran with my koko boost-mid boost at 9 oclock). Very tight, punchy, articulate with a nice smooth bottom end(like mila kunis  ).. I won't use the word 'saggy' as much as the word 'chewy' comes to mind...it's still mid voiced but has a nice thump that my PT100 had. My 2nd fav mod..BE/SAT is a bit brighter, middy but without being harsh or spikey. The G-B-E strings seem to shine thru more.... It's kinda like an old school rock vibe with a 'fuk you' attitude...Very skid row 'monkey business'..! I think the BE/SAT mod would sound huge in a stage setting with a bass player to bring a lil more bottom end. Like I said, Im only an hour in and Im sure I will learn and change more(installing new tubes this weekend).. That being said, I already miss my PT100, but Im in love with my Friedman...Dave is the man in all aspects!! The only negative thing I can say about the PT100 is the headshell..it's fugly!!  ..but I hear with my ears and not my eyes. Anxious to see what John and Pete have cooked up for the upgraded/updated PT100.. Cheerz to all the kind words from my bros here!!

Glad you're diggin'er man! (This is the guy you bought the amp from)

Definitely one of the top 5 amps I've ever owned. I was having pretty serve separation anxiety after handing the amp over to Fedex. Thankfully I was trapped out in the field almost sixteen hours a day in about five feet of snow!

Reading your description I'm already missing it! Haha.

Welcome to the club. I've got an early Marsha with all the options, what I'm really loving is just the BE channel, gain anywhere between 12:00 and dimed. The only mod I use ATM is the second gain/ Master volume mod, which is priceless! It really loves GB speakers, just wind down the guitar volume to clean it up.

Hey Justin... Yeah, thanx again. Have rehearsals tonite so looking forward to cranking her up and seeing how she sounds in a band setting  You be safe out there in all that snow...we got 8inches here and it pretty much shut us down   You let me know if you ever want to get rid of that '78 jmp in your signature  . Cheerz
