It's a beauty, but Gibson's wood grade is way off par! This is equivalent to most PRS's you can get with a 10 top. Still, lovely.

I'm going to build a shell for my Deliverance that's going to be 13AAA! Not kidding. I'm doing it.

That LP does have a smoking top.

somebody will buy it, it wouldnt be me but if they make a limited amount of these they will sell.

Hi Bob, trying to source wood for a wide flame book matched top now. Any leads?

Definitely not a 7A top. Nice but nowhere near 9G's nice

Sounds like there is specific criteria that meets that's grade designation. I imagine there's a lot of specifics that have to be met to meet that grade, and certify it that grade. It's out Laymans opinions unless we have the book of what makes each grade each grade. Just sayin.... IMO

It does not look any better than the AAA Premium Plus tops.

There was some crack involved in that grading.

Would love to know what the criteria is. I'm thinking it'a all just marketing BS.

'Don't really care what Gibson graded the top as...that's a damn nice look'n guitar. The top is beautiful and the back is stunning as well. 9G...well, it better play WAY better than it looks for that kinda $$$. :gethim:

I'll look around, curious now...

I guess no standard?! Meeehaps I stand corrected! :D although I would then find more fault with PRS crack smoking 10 tops for years....

I've seen and personally owned many better looking tops than that one there. 7A flame maple? Methinks not.

$9,000 7AAAAAAA

$3,000 3AAA

I realize this is a quilt but the level of figure is higher IMO than that 7A Gibson top. This is from my Anderson Drop Top 7 and it was no up charge. Just sayin'. ;)

It doesn't have anything to do with the wood. It's just one 'A' for every 1300$

Marketing bullshit. But, it's a beautiful guitar...

yup
no "standard" grading as far as I know....and I sure as shit hope they grade the tone/quartering/etc asides from just the aesthetic appeal (but I doubt all this is taken into consideration in most non-high end guitars)

Agreed. And I'm a Lester fanboi.

That top is a 4A in my opinion - it's a nice flame, symmetrical, fairly deep - but it's not fat, rippled and as though you're looking INto a glass of clear liquid deep. 7A is a marketing pitch. Fuck 'em. And agreed, the tops on the TAs, or Suhrs or even some of them homemade Warmoth guitars slay this one and they're nothing special to their respective manufacturers. This is just Gibson being Gibson. I'd buy it if it was guaranteed a great player and sub $5000, but not that price for play-feel unknown.
