Damn, how scary! I remember the quake of '89. It was really crazy.

Holy shit. Prayers for all those folks. That's a serious quake.

x3, most south American countries don't have the infrastructure to withstand such a rattle. I hope everyone is all right.

My high school best bud was from Chile, hope his family is alright.

Not to make light, but I thought that the gif in your sig was part of the post, lol. I was thinking "wtf?"

SHUT THE FUCK UP!

I live in Mendoza (Argentina) next to Chile, we are separated only by the Cordillera de los Andes. We didn't feel the earthquake from here. It was in the north. That made alert many cost countries like Peru, Ecuador and Colombia.
8,2 is damn strong. And I have heard they have Replics every 6 minutes. I still can remember the last earthquake they had some time ago with a tsunami too.

I agree that we dont have the way to support an earthquake with that rate. Chile really surprised me the way they stand up in a short period of time. IMO, they are a strong country, but unfortunately it took lot of human life.

So many people disappeared, they lost all they had in a second.

Really sad, my prayers for them.

I'm from Chile (Santiago) and fortunately it seems this time we learned the lessons that the 2010 earthquake brought. People evacuated the tsunami risk areas in order, and considering the intensity of the earthquake itself I think the number of victims is quite low (6 people, of which at least 3 were elder people who died from heart attacks). So I think at least this country is far more prepared now than 4 years ago for this kind of catastrophes, and for what I've seen on TV (I'm from Santiago, 1500 kms from the affected area) the material damage is not that bad. It's a great thing that this time there was not a tsunami, of course.

Believe it or not, my buds were lined up shoreside with boards ready at 4am when the tsunami was supposed to hit CR shores. Nothing happened, but a few hours later, we had another shaker just outside David, Panama.

Things are rockin' down here on many levels

And just FYI, we're safe, sound, mellow and chillaxed...
