Received the '59 SLP Re-Issue on Friday....After letting it get acclimated to it's new environment and up to temp since it had experienced sub-freezing temps in transit, I cranked it up and ran through the different voicings...
Before any description, let me preface by saying this amp has lot's of bells and whistles now...
1. Kitchen Sink with HBE on top right jack, BE on bottom right jack, and Custom45 on a switch on the back panel. Two left jacks on front panel not used anymore...
2. Fat switch on the back
3. Sat switch on the back
4. Modern switch on the back for changing the voicing of HBE
5. Loop with on/off switch on the back
Dave re-used my power tubes, but put some fantastic pre tubes in the thing...Looks like NOS JAN GE 12AX7WA's in three positions and another that is not labeled.
I hooked it up to a pair of EVH 5150 III cab's, then tried with a pair of Marshall Vintage with English Green's, then a pair of
Orange PPC412's w/ Vin 30's, then a pair of Avatar Vintage 4/12's with G12H30's.....
It sounds amazing....You know that Holy Grail tone you hear in your head but can never duplicate on an amp...I found mine...It is more true to the Marshall tone than my 50 Watt JCM800 Cameron Aldrich. I love them both though. It has plenty of gain, and I am a gain freak, but I have found the sweet spot generally speaking at about 2 O'Clock on any of the three....Usable all the way to up though....Effects loop is a great circuit..with all the switches, it is quite versatile...Roll off the volume on your guitar and it cleans up nicely. SOunds the best on the EVH and G12H30's cabs followed by the Greenback Marshalls and the Orange cabs...Takes a little more work to get it right with the Vintage 30's. My Cameron is the same way...
Anyways, that's my first impression...I like it so much, I sold my Einstein and will probably talk to Dave about a Marsha some time in the future....
