Just picked up this 97 WG.... and it smokes killer playing and sounding guitar! It came with the Duncan's installed (JB, 59) which sounded great. The original pickups came with the guitar. I decided to install them over the weekend. I didn't care for them too much , I thought the Duncan's sounded much better. So, I switched them back. I've had a couple of the EvH brand WG's, I remember really liking the pickups. Are the peavey pickups similar to the Evh ? I'm thinking of getting some to slap in the WG. But if they're are similar than maybe not. Anyways, I love the guitar !

I had peavey Wolf 5 years ago
I now have a EVH special stealth
Based off memory (& clips) the Evh is (my preference) superior- the attack & clarity is fun to play. The peavey wolf was great but had more smear to the attack

The Peavey pickups seem more modern whereas the EVH pickups a little more on the vintage side...everything we like about PAF's with a little more balls.

The EVH Wolfgang pickups will sound better than the original PV Wolf pickups. A little less output. In fact to me they sound like the EBMM EVH pickups only with less output to avoid being sued. And there's nothing wrong with the stock PV pickups. More versatile than most think. A guy from Dimarzio whose name rhymes with Steve told me the Peavey pickups had a "trash can" sound. Once he said it it's all I can hear. So I can see people not liking them. I'd play any gig right now and rock my old tobacco Archtop Peavey Wolf. It still slays. And it's stock.

I have a few sets of the PV wolf pickups and the trick to them is to use a 250K- 300K volume pot
You would be surprised at how this warms them up in a real good way.
I love them personally and they are so similar to the Custom wound dimarzio's in the EBMM EVH and Axis(which kick F'ing ass!) for that dimarzio tech to call them "trash can" sounding is a bit humourous since they sound essentially the same! :D
here is a decent demo of both, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLNwr5JA758

I loves me the PV Wolf. Nice score.

I actually prefer the sound of the PV pups over the Fender/EVH pups... the newer EVH pups sound more vintage with a softer bass/ low end. The PV pups have more gain and tighter lows.

:dunno:

Same here. What pots are you using with yours?

Both 500K... and 300K... CTS... I usually disconnect the tone pot as well. Mostly 500K unless the guitar is super bright to begin with.
