Well guys,

Lately I have been doing blind tests and not telling you what the variables changed are. I like doing this because it really eliminates bias; you use your ears more this way.

Here are a total of three PAIRS of audio files of me playing guitar. A variable was changed in each of these clips, but I will not tell you what until the test is over. All I'm going to say is that when you know what was changed, you will be very very surprised

L and R denotes a PAIR of guitars, so they have the same variable changed. You can listen to them as a stereo pair of guitars, or just pick one side if you'd like. Since most people here record rhythm guitar pairs, I figured that would be the most appropriate thing to do for the shootout

I didn't edit the DIs or anything, but they're definitely tight enough to judge a difference.

Either listen to them solo'd, or for a really honest representation, run them through your favorite stereo amp simulator for the big picture.

Pick your favorite: A, B, or C

If you think you know what was changed in the tests, please, feel free to comment.

50 votes, and I spill the beans!

Hmm, my ears feel shot right now, but...
A-seems the brightest
B-overall most balanced, but warmer than A
C- has a mid bump.

I'm just listening to the dry DI's, so listening that way I'm torn between A & B. I like the high end bite in A, but also dig the slightly fuller B. I'm going with B cause you could always dig in & get a little more bite.

I'm guessing you're changing picks.

I like B much better than A and C, it sounds livelier, more presence, a little reverb, too.
Did you put an Impulse Response on it?

All of these are raw recorded audio files; no effects whatsoever.

One variable was changed in the chain.

A sounds best, IMO. I'll say strings, or maybe picks but that was already mentioned.

I think guitars are the same in all 3 samples, just reamped.

It sounds like B is "? less or untreated? and a is in the middle and c has the most treatment that takes away bottom- collects mid- and is a bit further away-- I have been wrong b4! j

B also. Possibly B is with a boost even though you would think it wasn't. Can't think of anything else that would stun me.

Glip I doubt it as it has its bottom .. who knows!
That is true but I can't think of anything else that would be surprising.

C seemed darker than the other two. A and B were pretty much the same. B might have been a tad brighter. Hard to tell with clean tones and power chords though.

Im going to go with this. At first listen, I thought that this was a joke because they all sound the same to me LOL!!!!!

different pick up positions i think. I choose A, you can do more with that brightness and twang.
