First off, I'd like to know if they are what I'm looking for. I want something to give me an 80's metal tone along the lines of Warren DiMartini, Jake E. Lee, Vivian Campbell, Doug Aldrich, and Matthias Jabs. Obviously they're not all the same tone, and I'm well aware that a good bit of tone is in the fingers, but something along the lines of those dudes is what I want.
If I'm looking for that type of tone, and it's possible to get from one of the mods, which would be the one to get? I guess I'd like an explanation of the different mods available.
Also (I know, I'm probably asking too much), I'd like to get a killer thrash tone along the lines of Iced Earth. I know that Jon Schaffer uses an almost-impossible to get amp, but I'd love to get something that sounds fairly similar.
OK, now on to the amp itself. I don't have a Marshall or any amp to be modified right now. So, I'd be buying it with the intention of being modified. Does it have to be a vintage Marshall? I'm not a tone snob in the least, so if something else will get me close for cheaper, I'd rather that. Do reissues work? How about clones like a Ceriatone?
I know, it's a lot of questions. But I'm on my neverending tone quest, and I like the clips I've heard of the Friedman mods.
