Thanks for all of the advice and suggestions. I have definitely decided to go the Fortin Cali mod route. I would like to solicit some help from all of you. If you happen to see a Marshall JMP or Super Lead for a solid price will you please let me know?? :poke: I would be able to move on one immediately. Sounds like it is exactly what I would be looking for to compliment my playing style.

Thanks again guys! Best forum on the net!!

Hope this means what I think it means. Answer your PM's boy! Ralph tell him to answer my PM's!!!

Thanks guys! I will say that I did not mesh well with the Splawn Quick Rod so I have been a bit hesitant to go the "modded Marshall" route. I would like to make the change and would only do it if I could trade my IIC+ with a reputable and trustworthy forumite. If you ever hear of anyone that is interested in a trade like that let me know. I am very interested.

Splawns are cool but the Cali mod is much better at lower volumes.

It seems like I always read about people wanting hi-powered amps for low volumes. . Which do you like out of these choices for those of us that still get to play at pretty loud volumes. i.e. small/medium bars, but with loud modern rock /alt rock / hard rock ,etc unmic'd .. i.e. I get to play at whatever volume I'd like most of the time . Do people like Quickrods then or the Cali mod? Are they really similar at higher volumes? I read so many negative things about the Quickrods, but so many of the clips are the best clips I've heard on the net for YEARS. Are the guys saying the negative things playing them really low volumes, or just aren't able to use their eqs or are the clips deceiving? I'm serious... it's 1 of life's mysteries to me until I actually can try the damn amp! lol. . . I have a Morin Jmp, a Butler jtm45, a Bradshaw/Golub Plexi ,Voodoo-Plexi Ri ,and Egnater modded jcm800... . . Damn , there are so many great amps out there!

Can't comment specifically on the Quick Rod, but I've heard numerous times that Splawns in general need volume and if it's anything like the Nitros I've played then it definitely needs volume to shine. IMO there's a night and day tone difference between TV volume and say 10-11 o'clock on the master. That f'er is already loud as mess before it starts giving up the goods too. The other guitarist in my band just started putting an eq in the loop to drop the volume so he can crank the master and get the goods. Sounds great like that, but overall I'd say it's one of the most unfriendly bedroom amps I've played.

I'm pretty sure that the Cali mod that was played and recorded at the Fortin amp fest, was done at or close to gig volumes and sounded great.

Check it out here if you haven't already:

Cool, thanks for the posts guys. I'm not sure if I'm going to ever buy more amps as my house isn't big enough to hold more, but then I tend to buy about 2 every friggin year even after saying that!! They sound great in the clips, but I'm not sure they sound much different than what I have , so I'll probably have to get out and hear them for myself! Thanks again

Eric
