I was wondering that if it's possible to find a used guitar with an alder body, maple fretboard with 12-16 radius equipped with a Floyd Rose for around 300€? A SD JB would be preferable bridge pickup also.

I am basically trying to weigh in between getting a new neck for my surprisingly good Mexican Strat or just getting another guitar.

I would not be fussing about wood at that budget. If you can tolerate basswood, look into a Jackson MIJ DK2M. Decent enough bridge and even comes with a JB.

My mexican strat's body is made of alder and i've always preferred that over any other body wood. Good suggestion nevertheless.

Most common superstrats that I can think of are basswood. My MIJ Jacksons and ibanez prestige I think are basswood. I think a lot of LTD's are too.

As far as the wood in a MIM strat goes, I have owned a ton of them over the years and there is hardly any consistently as far as I could find as a trend other than aestetics.

Don't worry about the body wood and find one that feels good in your hands.

I can understand your fretboard preference though, that is more significant to feel and tone.

You can definitely build one. I have a Partscaster with about that much worth of parts into it. It's a great guitar, but the only money I had to spend was on parts I didn't already have laying around - about $28 for the red mirror pickguard and $40 for cheapo tuners.

Yeah i actually thought that i could take the Fender tuners from my current neck and use them on the new neck. Also it seems that thebestparts.com offers a strat neck with pretty good choices for under 200$ so it seems that i'm judt going to get the new neck.

Best neck I ever had was $100 on eBay for a new, maple, knockoff Kramer beak. You don't have to spend an arm and a leg for a good neck, unless you want exactly something that doesn't grow on trees.

Why are you getting a new neck? Fretwear? Structural? Etc.

I guess it comes down to if you want a new or new to you guitar.

How important are Floyd's to you? I mean you could route out the body for a Floyd but I wouldn't do that myself, but if you are good with woodworking it would be reasonable.

Was it finished or a raw neck? And if you can remember the seller i could actually take a look!

I'm basically getting a new neck because tuning issues and the problem with the nut that causes the strings to jump into wrong slots when bending hard enough. Also 22 frets would be nice.

Of course a floyd would be nice, but i'll probably settle with the strat tremolo and try to increase the tuning stability in other ways.

You don't just want a new nut?

Well like i said, i'd like to have 22 frets and forgot to mention about wanting a flatter radius, oh and i'd like to my neck be tad thinner also!

I'm also not sure if changing the nut would fix the tuning issue as the headstock is a vintage shaped so it actually goes steeply downwards which probably causes a lot of friction in the nut.

Go for the new neck then. Totally. Realize that some necks will need a little bit of work to make them play at their optimum level.

Just saying that a new nut and proper string trees will fix the problem. I have cut a few nuts and it makes a huge difference.

I am not trying to be rude, but I would rather spend $60 on a properly cut bone nut, and use the rest of the budget towards a new guitar, as it is always a nice thing to have a back up.

If you are up for a new neck, get one built exactly how you want. You could get a compound radius, maybe flame or Birdseye on the fretboard and maybe get it fit with a locking nut for down the road.

Actually i have a custom built superstrat coming to me asap so i decided that i would use the current Fender Strat for Drop D tuning, that's why i was thinking about getting a new neck.

If you're surprised at how good your mexi strat is, why would you swap the neck?

I am wondering the same. This is a rather ambiguous thread..
In the first post he mentiones a €300 guitar with a Floyd. Then now he has a custom shop one coming. Then a new neck for an mim with 22 frets. Then he isn't worried about a Floyd. Also every time I have bought a $100 neck I spend two hours on a level and crown. Which he probably does not know how to do or have the tools. For me a neck on a 'surprisingly good' guitar the good thing is the neck. Everything else in an MIM can go in a recycling bin as far as pots and pickups and the saddles (maybe bridge too).

And he wants a JB, which is a fine pickup, no issue there he could get a JB Jr. Which is about 75% there in my experience.

Non of this is covered by the new neck.

:headscratch:

I meant that the body's surprisingly good. The neck isn't bad in terms of quality minus the nut, but the radius and thickness isn't just for me.

The reason i mentioned the 300€ floyd rose guitar at first is because i was trying to figure out that if i should get a completely new guitar replacing my MIM strat altogether or just get a new neck. In terms of which is more cost effective. Also i forgot to mention the 22 frets and flatter radius in the beginning so i mentioned it later.

And about the custom shop guitar, it will be my main guitar in a standard tuning, while the MIM strat that i have now would be in Drop D tuning. And floyd sure would be nice but it seems that i would have to save some funds to get one with the specs that i like.

My mexican Strat is a HSS one, so i have a normal JB on it as a bridge pickup. Also the pots have been replaced and are quality japanese ones now so i wouldn't worry about them.

Plus i am most likely going to get a Musikraft neck already. Costs somewhere around 300€ posting and custom fees included so i think it would be a good investment.

Get a DK2M. You will be happier that way.

Neck+JB, and not having a Floyd you would be happier with the Jackson.
