About 6 years ago my wife Missy (who plays bass/sings/piano) was diagnosed with a growth on her left thyroid. The doctors said it could be cancerous and wanted to remove the whole thyroid. We were reluctant because her mom and others we knew had the same surgery and had no singing voice after the operation (which is pretty common). Also that would mean she would have to be on medication the rest of her life to keep her body balanced. So for 6 years we were putting it off. Recently while recording it became apparent that it was really affecting her pitch and vibrato control. Plus on occasion her left arm would go numb. So we knew it was truly time to do something. Well, through the good grace of our Heavenly Father we found a doctor that agreed to remove the left side, see if it was cancerous, and move forward from there (all doctors except this one wanted to remove the whole thing due to the cancer factor). Well, on May 8 the surgery was done. They found no cancer so the right thyroid remains, is making up the difference of the left one being removed, and she doesn't have to take any medication. And just 2 weeks after the surgery on May 22 we recorded the vocals to this tune - so she still has a singing voice too. It is truly a miracle/blessing for our situation to turn out like this and I am thankful :) .

Yeah, she did lots of studying and was going to do absolutely everything to avoid being dependant on medicine for the rest of her life. She didn't even take pain medication after the operation - she's a trooper!
