A solo you can't actually listen to because of the tone...

My vote goes to:

Sympathy Of The Devil - The Rolling Stones

Usually I can connect on some level to damn near anything.

I love the Stones.

But that particular solo just... I don't know. Not a fan of the tone anyway.

Fight For Your Right To Party and No Sleep Till Brooklyn come to mind. Thanks Kerry King.

Blue on black by Kenny Wayne Shepperd.Great tune until he stinks it up with the octave up thing.

haha, I always wondered what they used for those guitar tones, whether they sound good or bad.

Does anyone know? Was it a broken telephone?

It was Kerry King on both solo's.

I dig Satriani's playing a lot, but something about his tone irks me.

I love Van Halen. But I don't love the tone he has going for his solos. I respect the technique, just not the tone. Eh.

Many.

But considering that the samba feel and the backing vocals takes precedent in RS's Sympathy, I can handle it.

Zappa used to pull some pretty treacherous tones in some of his solos...but the nastiness was intentional, so can't really say it was supposed to be loved.

Interesting thread.

I know it's Kerry King, but I was wondering what equipment was used. It sounds different to his Marshall JCM 800 with the 500Hz midrange boosted for extra "nuts".

More 'hidden' and mushy in fact, like it was recorded with a cardboard box amp in a cupboard.

No Sleep Till Brooklyn in contrast sounds quite mid-scooped.

And damn both look so dated!
