Hi. I'm new to the boards here but have read up on topics, specially on pedal and midi controls. I have a VH4 that my bandmate let me use and have when his studio closed down (awesome friend!). Anyways, I thought I'd share a story about the amp and it's durability.
Last Jan, I had a show in Brooklyn I was going to be playing at. Our show came after a snow storm so the roads weren't the best that day. Still, I went in because I've gone in before after snowstorms, I just had to drive carefully. Well my car was a monte carlo. Big enough truck to fit my 4x12 cab and I keep my Diezel in the back seat along with my pedal board. My Diezel is set up so that it's wege behind my seat and the backseat so it doesn't fall to the ground when I stop the car. Anyways, as I was approaching the Brookln-Queens Expressway, I noticed a car accident on the side of the road and a bunch of flashing lights by the exit. When I saw it, I decided to get into the left lane to avoid having to come to a screeching halt if it was in my lane. Well, I hit black ice instead.
My car spun out of control until I was flying backwards. My car had then hit the back of a parked flatbed truck that was attending to the accident ahead of me (irony). I hit the tow truck with such impact, that my 4x12 that was in the truck and it came through the backseat, going on top of my pedal board and breaking the knobs off of them. Hit also hit the Diezel and the Diezel then shot into my front seat, breaking 4 ribs and puncturing a lung. Needless to say, I was rushed to the hospital and my car was towed away.
When I got everything back, my board was demolished. Some pedals survived, others didn't. My 4x12 Vader Cab was destroyed. the wheels were all bent out of the shape one of the speakers came loose, and the glass got inside the grating and scratched all the speakers up.
My Diezel SURVIVED.
It has a rip on the tolex on the side where it hit me and the back plastic cover bubbled out. Other than that, the thing works perfectly still. No problems, nothing. This amp was obviously built to last, but I don't think it was made with the intentions of surviving car wrecks. My Monte carlo is gone. It was reduced to the size of a Smart Car.
As of now I'm back to playing music again. Replaced my cab with a 2x12 Mesa Boogie, restored my effects and I'm rocking out again. Just thought I'd share that story on just how much of a monster Diezel is and not just in terms of sound.
