Strat vs. Paul, Bathory and Mockingbird

First let me say I have been away too long for personal/family issues.

Now the problem.
I own a 98 Gilmour NOS which has seen the daylight less than a miser's dollar.
I play it so little but it has huge sentimental value and it is truely in collectable condition.

The problem is my funds are short and my GAS is bad.
I was thinking of selling the Strat then purchacing a Les Paul traditional pro, a Zoltan Bathory Assassin, and a Mockingbird pro x.
I can get it to be basically even dollar for dollar but I am torn between the Strat and my GAS.
P.S. my wife does not like this idea.
 
Don't sell gear that has "huge sentimental value." Outside of keeping gear you dig, this is the only other gear that should remain in your toolbox. Trust me on this.
 
Agree with Bob. If it's got sentimental value, you WILL regret it later...
 
Any chance Guitar Center goes out of business, then since the debt to Fender is so large, Fender goes out? If so, value could double quickly...if not, you still have a cool Gilmore axe!
 
I sold both my first guitar for parts and also my wolfgang special to a collector to hang on a wall for the rest of its life. I played the wolfgang for 4 years and in 2 cover bands earning my only source of income right out of high school. Huge sentimental value.

If i do not play it then i have no use for it. I do not collect gear - i play it.

With amps it is a bit different. You can rotate them in and out for different flavors, but if i am not playing a guitar then i off it for something i will play. Life is too short to do otherwise. I had my reasons for selling the wolfgang and regardless of the history i do not regret it. I now have a custom Special MII sitting in its place and it is twice the guitar the wolfgang was.

FWIW i have not flipped much gear but the gear i have flipped i have zero regrets. You do what you want.
 
Don't sell it if it has sentimental value. The $180 Takamine Jasmine my Grandpa bought me is a POS and a downright chore to play, but it's one of the only things I have left from him.

I would keep the Gimore, and just save and get a LP down the road a bit. I also wouldn't bother with the other 2, but that's just me. YMMV.
 
if what you currently have isn't cutting it, then off it.
 
What is the huge sentimental value? I mean if it's going to sit in a case for life whats the sense. If you had disposable income then I would say keep it but you obviously don't so, off it and never look back. Plus a Gilmour strat is not that rare, correct?
