They're great-sounding amps...

Oddly enough, 5+ years later and I still play my Marshall... :D

haha...well 20 years later I still play MY 71 SL   I think I am modding the fucker though...
That was a great year for Marshalls.
Modding how? Like super high gain or just a bit more?

Tried one yesterday and I liked it but I went out off the shop whit a Gibson SG VOS AY. :D

I agree, the HT-5 is amazingly awesome, and makes me feel all warm inside that its possible to make such a good sounding amp at this price point.

I think I'm going to buy one of these, since I'm on a major budget. Seem like sweet amps for the price.

Dave,

This is the way I feel about my Bedroom amp. Renegade 65w, and TM212 Cab... It nails the 87' Skyes Whitesnake tone to a tee and just has the unreal Hard Rock / Heavy Metal sound.

It's Rich and Dark sounding, and I could play in my Bedroom forever, and forget about all the Monster Rigs Downstairs!

Best,

So like the title says, I still play my Blackstar HT-5. It is such a killer bedroom/practice amp. Granted, I use it in my slave setup, but it still slays. Dare I say I prefer it over my stock Marshalls...
Dave, Didn't you change the tube? What did you change it to and what difference did it make?

As I'm finding out, it's very hard to make a modern amp out of an old Marshall without making irreversable changes.
But I'm a n00b... LOL! :D

Can you describe us what sounds you can get from the amp? Its price rocks

I like the Renegade but if you really want to nail the Sykes tone get a Boogie Mark III. It gets a lot closer to the SYkes tone than the Renegade does. A blue or red stripe III will also have a lot more gain than the Renegade. The Egnater sounds closer to a Marshall IMHO. Sykes used Boogies for 87 and Blue Murder albums anyway.

just a question. how easy would be to setup an ht5 or eggy tweaker as a preamp? i've got a boatload of 12bh7 "pulls". retubing an ht5 is not a problem for me.

Danyeo,

I don't want to turn Daves Blackstar Thread into a Renegade/Mesa thread, but with those Dark Lead 80's in the cab, and the Burstbucker III in my Les Paul... It sounds Exactly Like 87' Whitesnake to a tee! And I'm not using all the gain this thing has!

I don't think that it sounds Marshally what so ever, and for a Marshall I have this:
