Gentlemen...and Laura,

A slight departure from my usual Lester fanboism (Mo, Lester...I can see the jokes coming already). I'm looking at a Fender. Who can tell me about the playability of the following three subjects in question:

Mustang
Jazzmaster
Jaguar

I'm looking for this to be my "I don't care if it gets beat to shit" guitar. Tone isn't the utmost priority as this guitar will also be the one taking the most abuse in public and the like, but if it's attainable, sure - bonus. Yes, I've been toying with the notion of a Telecaster, but that's a different menu option. This post is in regards to a travelling, jammin, giggin guitar.

Thanks!

No love

Alright, if yer wondering why these 3, my buddy in T.O. who owns a music shop has got 1 of each from an order, and is offering me any one at well below cost. I'm not a Fender guy, I'm not even familiar with these models. But since I figured I can get one for dirt cheap, who out there knows how these play and what they offer. I personally think there's way too many buttons and shit on 'em, but I figured price is right, and I don't care if someone's beer gets tossed on it.

Thanks!
Mojo

Never played any of those 3, Mo. But, if the beater needs to sound good and play well, it is tough to be a good T style guitar. They are always true and predictable.

Here's a better mousetrap:

Concur. But the price on one of the aforementioned is just ridiculous. I know where the Tele can go musically and that it's on my radar, but considering I'm looking at about 40% that of retail for any of the above, I thought maybe worth a bit of serious thought.

I don't know man, going from your Lester to one of those will be like going from driving a Tundra to a Yaris.
Mustang is ugly as sin, Jazz and Jag are real cool, but tuning stability can be an issue.

Point taken. Might be best to stick the aforementioned 40% otherwise spent into a proper Tele build and call it a day.

But hey, more input is welcomed...

Bro Mo, I have always stood by Strats and Teles as guitars that you can absolute punish and they will come back looking for more. Seriously, you can beat these things worse than an Iraqui POW and theyll just smile at you...

I LOVE my Floyd Paul and other Tilt neck guitars but I have to baby them. Fender built guitars to survive just about anything and that includes neglect and wanton abuse...

I should mention that I Loathe the guitars that you mentioned. given the choice, Id judt find some decent import example of the ones that I mentioned earlier and make it work...

This thing sounds and plays amazing and you can full on crank some drunken idiot in the dome with it and go back to playing without a worry in the world...

OK, have a look at American Deluxe series of Tele's. Satin necks, good setup. Maybe try some aftermarket PU's if the stock one's doesn't suit you. They are reasonably priced and can take a good tossing.... :D

Used Nashville model fender, 3 pups, Strat pup in middle isn't bad. There is a mid level tele with P90's. I broke down and got a cherry sunburst American deluxe. I am growing to really like that guitar. It just sings with clarity.

The only thing wrong with a tele is that is not seen as cool.

Who cares       Don't you find them comfortable to play though? I have several and am amazed at how well that plank of wood holds tune, especially drop tunings. I find them to be a good work horse and dependable/predictable. For me, they are excellent thrash guitars. Great for Drop B and Drop C stuff.

That seems to be the hang up with them in general. They are great guitars. Solid as a brick. They just get no love for as good as they are.

Only with the "metal" community maybe. Teles are the epitome of cool.

I believe Squire is about to release some Vintage Modified Jazzmasters, Jags, and Mustangs actually... I don't know about VM, but the Classic Vibe series is superb for the price range, nothing like the old bullets and such. If it's going to be a beater and tone doesn't have to be the tip top, then maybe you could save a few bucks.

EDIT A: http://www.tdpri.com/forum/other-guitar ... -look.html
EDIT B: Oops, didn't read that you already had leads on some others already.

Mo, I'm willing to bet you have several guitars that you really like the way they feel and sound. Pick one and transfer it from case/home queen to sacrificial lamb. It's a guitar. Play it, wherever that may be. Maybe you'll get lucky and it will get scratched  right away. The first one is always the hardest.

I had the same problem and found a used squire tele. After I set it up and dropped a different pup in the bridge it is actually perfect for a guitar/war club I was looking for. Total cost: $150.00

I really dont like the way the mustang looks but for what you want it is really the best option. It's gonna get beaten to shit so who cares what it really looks like. It's a nice playing guitar thats a medium weight and is balanced alright (not any better or worse then the other options) and it will stay in tune for you especially if you have a heavy picking hand. Get the mustang mo.

oh and get rid of that vh4 and buy a herbert already :D hahahahaha

This thread is starting to come to life....

Keep bringing it.
