It's stories like these that make make me ponder reincarnation. I mean where'd this kid come from? Joe's phenominal. I hope my son passes me by like that.

The Engl Richie Blackmore amp is a close substitution for a Marshall Silver Jubillee....

Wow, that post was sure interesting. He doesn't sound like a gear snob at all in that post!?!?!? Sounds like a really open minded dude (getting good tones out of "crap" gear.)

He still enjoys plenty of "good" gear like Carol-Ann and Category 5. :D Joe can make a Pignose sound good though!

If Joe B. says something about gear I tend to believe him! Goddamn can he play...

I find it very refreshing to hear someone like Joe B say an old crappy '70s solid-state Marshall combo sounds fantastic... That "should" put things into perspective for people.

I agree 100%

I may not have been the same caliber gear whore as lots of guys on some forums, but I definitely had a phase of selling, buying, selling, buying. I was never satisfied. Now that I have some solid gear that just plain sounds good, I'm going to focus on playing. No more nit-picking, no more obsessing, just playing. Sure, I like to buy pedals here and there, but from now on it's just from necessity. I have two solid amps: 50 watt Plexi build through a Scumback loaded 4x12, and a 1968 Super Reverb. That's pretty much all I need right now. I'd like an uber-heavy amp down the road, but for now I'm good.

Rant over!

At TGP someone asked how to get Joe B. tones and put up a pole, over half the site told him to get Cat5 and Two Rock over Marshalls and Budda

Yeah and 50% of them will go out and blow 20k on that gear and still sound like wet duck farts in a can.

Which is pretty f-ing stupid considering 99% of the recorded material people base their version of his sound on is a Marshall Silver Jubilee and a Budda

Which brings up another thing...Benchmark Tones. Right now the one sound that is just slaying me is the crunch guitar part(s) in Joe B's tune "The Hard Way" from his "So it's like that ..." disc - after about 00:8 in and through the rest of the tune. It's pretty simple - just big Marshall + Les Paul tones, but man what a sound.

I met Joe when he was 17 and he was playing through a non modded Peavey 5150 and a few pedals. He sounded great through that setup and after speaking to him, he is absolutely a gear freak but definitely not a snob. He comes from the school of if it works......it works. The cool thing is that when Joe was 17 he incorperated a lot of other licks that you don't hear him play these days! He busted out a few Yngwie type licks during the show and he did it with such ease, it was scary. Definitely a prodigy.

Cool post Steve. Funny you mention that album. I must have listened to the entire thing 6 times yesterday driving to Portland AND back. Such a ripping album with some stellar tones.

How does the Aiken do for these?

Bwahahahahahahhaha

With the bright volume all the way up, the dark volume at about 12:00 and the master appx 3/4's to all the way up that is THE tone...Secret Weapon all the way. Hit with just a shade of boost it's over the top.

Portland AND back ???? so much for the test drive ;)

There's very little this amp won't do, including the the Joe B. tones in either mode

Is that the Concorde? The clips sound fuckin' great.
