There appears to be lots of different mods for these things. I've read some people like the 3TM and I've read where others say it ruined it. I'm not really looking for noise mods, I don't find mine to be noisy. But I'd like a bit more gain, not much. And more punch and maybe less compression. A Koko boost does kind of work but just looking for ideas.

I did try tweeking the OD trimmers and read how to do it but for some reason mine seems to sound best with them all the way down. When I turn them up it loses focus/clarity and just gets messy. I mostly stay close to the Wagener settings.

There were a bunch of mods in mine. i returned it mostly to stock save for the recap job.

Im not even sure what mods are in it. Some preamp tube rolling may get you closer to what you're looking for without having to fire up the soldering iron.

It's too bad Trace from Voodoo doesn't mod them anymore. His modded MP1 that I played absolutely slayed.

I did my typical first crack at tube rolling when I got it...put a Beijing 6N4J in V1 and liked it better. It had new EH in it. Then I did the same to V2 but liked the EH better and I never pursued that further. I'm pretty sure mine is stock but I don't even know which version/revision it is. I should play with that some more.

Yup, I've read his MP1 mods were good. I was all ready to contact him then I noticed the post I was reading was from 2002 or something.

It has negative voltage on the cathodes and I'm just a hack so I don't don't know wtf to do with that. Per the schematic I have it has 16k cathode resistors on V1a/b for example. Maybe I'll just try increasing the V1a 100k plate resistor to 220k and see what happens. Everything is so damned tiny in there. :D

I sent mine to Belgium a few years back and had Marshall JMP mod mine to 3tm Ultra specs. I’ve owned several MP1’s over the years but none of them touched my 3tm Ultra. It’s a bad mf’er!

ADA Depot is your friend. That place was happening back in the day like 2005..

I'm a long time user of the stock MP-1 preamp in my guitar rack rig. I had my MP-1 preamp modded to 3TM Ultra specs by Hairston Bagg (Robert Metzger). One of the best things that I did for that preamp. I now own 2 ADA Depot 3TM Ultra modded MP-1 preamps.

The ADA Depot is still up and running! Look here: http://www.adadepot.com/ They have mods that you can do to your own MP-1 preamp, if you're good with soldering: http://adadepot.com/index.php?topic=148.0

Thanks for the suggestions and link. I've seen that ADA Depot thread and that thread is one of reasons I posted here. There's a ton of mods/options and I was hoping to get some "don't do this one it's a waste but this one is awesome" advice. It's good to hear the 3TM can be a great mod, I've read conflicting reviews. Maybe it depends who does it.

Cool stuff. I’ve always wanted to tinker with one of these.

It sounds pretty good stock into the Mk IV power amp. That power amp with EQ alone is almost worth what Mk IV's go for used, especially if it still has 415s.

There are some 3TMs for sale but they are asking close to $1k. You can get stock ones for 1/4 of that, probably less. Would be cool to find one of those 3TM boards.

Wagener settings?

I had my stock Mp1 modded to 3Tm specs a couple of years ago by Marshal Jmp. I got my AxeFx 2 right after that, so I never had much time to bond with the changes. Ive still got it and my other pre amps, but they seem to be more relics and hold overs from my past than required tools.

Its cool that ADA depot is back up and running. How many of the original members are involved or is it new enthusiasts taking over the brand?

This actually makes sense because the ada needs more EQ to shape the tone.

I bet that modded one does sound kick ass..I had a stock MP-1 many years ago and wish I kept it.
