You need to track down the long since out of print first (or second?) Loudness album "Devil Soldier". The tunes and playing on that disk smoke the Thunder in the East stuff. All the vocals are in Japanese except for the random "Ohh baby..."

Yeah Steve those albums are amazing. I still have em on vinyl LPs from when I was like 14.

My old Langner preamp was Akiras at one point......

Yea that dude a killer player.

Good player, tone lacking to me though (notice I said "TO ME"). Sounds like any 80's "chain saw" modded/boosted/distortion pedaled Marshall.

hehehehe, I knew I would stir the troops with that statement. :D

I just don't think his tone as represented in these vids is anything special. "TO ME" it had a buzzy, thin sound, especially on the leads. Once he switches to the neck pick-up it does sound much better.

DEFINITELY a large influence on me. Total package player! His rhythms are great as well!

Id have to agree with you. Almost every live band I played with back in the 80's had that tone. Sounds like a distortion box into a marshall or in Akira's case, a preamp into a Marshall. leads sounds thin also.

But with that said, Ive always dug somne of the stuff Akira did back in the day. There were some killer riffs for sure. The only thing is that his vibrato kind of killed it for me. If he had that wide Lynch vibrato, he would have been one of my favorite players back in the day, but thats just me knitpicking.

Except for the nitpicking parts, you nitpicker, I agree with your agreements and ammendments.

The entire Loudness discography is out there if you look, they had alot more releases than I thought

Akira was like an encylopedia of 80's metal to me, he had a little bit of all my favorite players licks/techniques from back then rolled up into his style :)

I think his tone is awesome....I guess I'd like to hear these other bands that have that sound  I saw them a year or so ago in a small club...he was LOUD!!!! Using a DSL and a Boss GT something or other, still had great tone.

You guys and your Mesa mud machines must have permanent ear damage :gethim:

There's nothing wrong with having some meat with you potatoes!!!!

I think the real problem is with you deaf people who have lost their "high end" hearing and keep turning up the Treble and Presence knobs to compensate. :gethim:

Consider me unstirred. I didn't even listen to the clip because with Akira, you know what your gonna get tonewise without necessitating a listen...
