I saw these guys on the "Lightning Strikes" tour & to this day it was one of the highest quality live mixes I've ever heard. There were only about 900 people at the show & the musicianship was incredible. I remember Akira was using some kind of Mesa Boogie half-stack, (I didn't know anything about gear at the time, I'm assuming now that it would have been a Mark IIC+ ?) The guitar tone was unbelievable, & the entire band was flawless except for when the singer tried to banter in English between songs. ;)

Anyway, funny story about this concert is that a new band, unknown at the time was the opening act. They were called Poison and were supporting their very first album, the one with "Talk Dirty To Me" on it! My buddies and I saw the ad poster for them before the show & thought, "Cool, an all girl rock band!" Man were we surprised when they walked on stage

What happened next would forever dictate my opinion of Poison other than the fact that I didn't like their music.

About two tunes into the opening set, CC Deville in true Rockstar fashion starts running across the stage, trips on something and faceplants hardcore, never able to get his hands out in front of him to break the fall. He's pretty much out cold & his guitar is wailing & feeding back like crazy..bzzzzztburpburpbzzzzzt. Two roadies come out and pick him up of the stage & take him to the wing all the while..bzzzztburpburpbzzzzzzt. Meanwhile, the rest of the band, professionals that they were, finished the tune guitarless. I actually respected that.

After the tune, Michaels did some bantering until finally, CC comes limping out on stage with his guitar and sits on the drum riser for the remainder of the show. And that my friends was my first and only experience with Poison. :D

Akira rules! Old Loudness is some of my favorite 80s music (the new stuff...not so much...). As far as the Mesa, he was probably playing a Mark III. Funny story about Poison, too. :D

Talk about a wide chasm between player abilities, Takasaki <--> Deville

Akira & Loudness were a great band! one of the most unknown/underrated metal albums of ALL-TIME was simply self-titled "Loudness - Loudness",from 1992...unbelievable killer songs & guitar "tone"...it's a hard-to-find cd,but if you find it-buy it!!! songs like "Pray for the Dead","Black Widow","Love Kills" and "Everyone Lies",to name a few,are just great!!!

If you can, check out the concert vid from the Masaki-led Loudness (circa 1992) to support the "Loudness" LP, "Welcome to the Slaughter House". Akira's got a stack of Peavey's with a pedal that is piercingly bright. Tight playing and killer songs.

hey man, yeah,i've got that actual VHS tape of the concert from the '92 tour.it's definately a killer live show.i'll have to watch it again soon...thanks for the reminder!!!

I had an old guitar mag where Akira went though his stuff, but I only remember that he had the Mesa 4x12`s with 2 EVs and 2 Celestions. He`s a killer player, "Soldier of fortune" is a fantastic album, I only have it on vinyl, and my turntable is broken, so I can`t listen to it now :aww:

"Thunder In The East", "Lightning Strikes", & "Hurricane Eyes" are the only albums I really liked. I lost interest after they fired the singer & hired the American dude. I still have "Soldier of Fortune" & "On the Prowl" on cassette, I'll have to go back and listen to them. Maybe after all these years I can listen to them from a different perspective?
