Which do you prefer for a rock or metal Floyded/Humbucker super strat?

I really like both actually, each have characteristics I like.

Just tryin to get some outside opinions. :)

mahogany - darker tonality, really resonate, sustaining type of wood. alder is pretty badass for rock/metal and lends a brighter character but mahogany matched with a bright high output pickup - is a killer combination especially for playing in the upper registers.

FWIW i have both woods - if i had to choose my favorite it would be the solid mahogany guitar.

Mahogany, with a maple top for the top end. Or at least a maple neck :)

Solid? Alder...but with a maple top mahogany rocks pretty good.

Been in India, teaching and gigging with Atma Anur...came back around X-mas, and had to get ready for NAMM. Got a Baked Tater gig coming up and I'm off to India for another 10 weeks of gigging and teaching at the same music college.

Loving it...
I played on this Indian singer's album with Kai Eckhardt (McLaughlin's bassisit) and ATma, and she did some insane stuff on the last Richard Bona and Trilok CDs..who are 2 of my fave musicians.
Plus they roll the red carpet out for me in Asia...cannot complain.

That sounds great ..... just a little jealous. :)

I like solid alder with passives, mahogany/ maple top with EMG's... That just my taste

It depends on the music and pickups, but for what I do, typically mahogany.

For what you guys play Pete, I would think alder, it should have a bit more attack/bite than mahogany
just my 2C ;)

Strat style guitars are alder in my books, sometimes Basswood with a Maple top. But in this case, I'd be more inclined to go with Alder... Depends on the manufacturer at the end of the day - some super strats cats are better with some woods than others

Alder. It's not very exciting, not difficult to harvest and doesn't require displacing indigenous tribes and grows all over this country. I just love the way it sounds is what it comes down to. Boring figuring, cheap pricing and readily available doesn't help it's coolness level, but I use it anyway, :)
