is he using krank now? theres an article on wiki sayin he is

There's no link on wiki confirming it, but I see a few forum people talking about it. It's few and far between, however. I'm not sure how true it is.

There was an article at Finnish Krank distributor's site about Laiho and Latvala getting Kranks about a year ago or so. Fast forward one year and it might have something to do with COB's studio diary and especially the part where they mention that they weren't happy with their sound and they had to get some new amps to get it right. :D

doesn't suprise me they weren't happy with that sound. it was shite :D

personal preference...i think the CoB sound is awesome...like Randy Rhoads' tone from Diary of a Madman  of course, if theyre not using the Lee Jackson preamps anymore, i wouldnt mind it if Alexi donated his to me...id love to have one

Verything Laiho does sounds rushed to me. All the guitar parts seem like they have some flavor, but he just speeds through everything.

Needs to stop singing too, horrific vocals, IMHO.

I'm pretty sure he used roughly the same setup on every album with a poweramp swap here and there, and a Powerball on Sixpounder.

the first album (something wild) was a 5150. everything after that is Lee Jackson, just with different poweramps as Code said. Follow the Reaper sounds like theres some PSA-1 mixed in as well, but i cant find anything to confirm this...i just hear it in there!

was a Powerball really used on Sixpounder? i thought that album was all Lee Jackson into a 5150? whatever it is, Sixpounder rules

Im pretty sure HateCrewDeathroll was a Sansamp PSA1 and some of the Lee Jackson preamp for leads. The Follow the Reaper tone is all Lee Jackson preamp, thats by far my favorite COB tone. i also preferred the album production on Follow the Reaper too, sounds better overall to me!

got any links for confirmation? HateCrew really doesnt sound at all like a PSA-1 to me...i play around with mine all the time! LOL sounds a lot more like FTR...its got that really bright high end and the tight lows that FTR has.

im just curious because ive been searching for gear lists of what theyve used on all their albums, including how much they use their PSA-1's...but its not easy. only bits and pieces here and there, like what they have in their racks (which is easy to find) but not what they used on certain albums (like what poweramps...although it seems like the Classic 50/50 is Alexi's choice for studio work).

I think the Lee jackson and PSA 1 were mixed up allover the HateCrew album.. I can definitly hear lots of the LeeJackson tone but i dont think the Lee Jackson was the only thing used.. They started using PSA's during the album after HateCrew and they use it on the bonus footage on the trashed lost and strungout ep disc. So im guessing they mixed the PSA in and probably EQ'd it a bit to blend in with the LeeJackson tone?

I like his guitar playing although he isn't doing anything we haven't heard already. As much as i hate his vocals he deserves a lot of respect to be able to sing/scream/growl and play at the same time.

i can see them mixing the tones...definitely. but i still hear more Lee Jackson than PSA-1. Are You Dead Yet? (album after Hate Crew) sounds like there may be PSA-1 on it as well, but still sounds more like a Lee Jackson IMO...the tone is too smooth sounding to be PSA!

when i saw them live (which was right after Hate Crew came out) Alexi's tone sounded nearly identical to the Follow the Reaper tone.

man...i HATE talking tone like this...i mean, i love it, but i hate not being able to find concrete sources for this stuff! ive tried for hours before trying to find info on anyone and everyone that uses a PSA-1, even for just little overdubs, and its hard to find anything! although i have found a few cool bands from Norway or Finland who use them who arent famous LOL

oh, and finding Roope's old project Waltari on Youtube...theres some stuff from a tv show in Finland they played on and it sounds a lot like PSA-1 (and Roope has said he likes the PSA-1 distortion LOL)

some Waltari with Roope! and all these tones sound very similar to a PSA-1...but i cant find any confirmation on it.

Wow, no shit? I gotta go back and listen to that album again. I knew he used a 5150 live years ago, but his only requirement for amps is that they have enough gain.

I played a Lee Jackson XLA-1000 amp once and it was easily one of the biggest pieces of shit I've ever played. Sounded completely horrible.

yep, along with a cheapo Ibanez guitar i believe...i can actually get quite close to that tone when i turn the gain on my 5150 high enough   which is around 7 or so.

as for the Lee Jackson amp you played...ive heard mixed reviews about them. i want to play one myself one day and make my own decision...dunno if it would sound anything like the Bodom tone, but ive heard a few songs where a Lee Jackson amp was used and i like the tone. but we have very differing opinions on tone so ya know
