Were you using a gate? My VH4 squeals like a pig in the 4th channel if I stand that close to the amp

I actually wasn't using a gate. but the volume was NOT at stage volumes either. I'd say it was at a nice LOUD -bedroom- volume if that make sense ? 
enough to get a decent sound but not so loud that my upstairs neighbour would kill me..... I'm sure she felt the vibrations though!
