All speakers in phase? Check with 9V battery?

Hi, someone posted here that an easy check to see if all speakers of your cab are in phase would be using a 9V DC battery.

So how does this work exactly? I was thinking of using an instrument cable, connect it to the terminal and press the other side of the cable (tip and sleve) to the two poles of the battery. Then of course have a look if all speaker-membranes push in the same direction.

Is this how it`s done, anything I am missing here?

If you take the back plate off, you can just have a few leads or even just wires (held on battery terminals with one hand) and then actually.use the tip and sleeve of the female.

I am having trouble understanding your approach, though i am sure it would work.

What i do is have the whole back off, but that is because it is the final check i do with the speaker wires (all tied together) after installing speakers before i solder the female. Of course i cut a 9volt connnection of and so it snaps on the 9 volt battery and i stripped the wire for ease of use.

Yes, that's how it works. Just connect the battery only for a second or so, otherwise you will discharge it fast.

edit: plus of the battery to the plus of the speaker causes cone to move "out"

Thanks for the advice and video. Will make this test on my cab. I paired two g12-65 with two g12-t75 (early vented ones). I expected more push etc. but somehow it sounded lifeless. Not sure, if it`s the speaker combo itself or a phase issue.

If it’s out of phase you should hear it immediately. It’ll sound thin and have absolutely no low end whatsoever.

That's what's wrong with one of my cabs right now. I took out the speakers a couple days before getting the new ones and forgot how it was correctly wired. Hopefully I'll get it right today.
