I'm warming up to the idea of a modeler like the Headrush or AX8. I know the HR doesn't sound as good outta the gate as the AX8, BUT the UI Display and ease of use really gives it the edge to me.

So I saw online you can get 3rd party patches from Choptone and also Marco Fanton. The clips of these patches sound really good for the HR.

Can someone walk me through how this work? Do you download it and then pull it up on the pedalboard? Can you edit the patches, by adding FX or boosts or taking them away?

Just curious. Thanks!

Hey man, good questions.

Simple process - you'd import the patches, just like you would any you'd download from the respective product forums or various vendors out there. Fractal's AXE-Edit and AX8-Edit utilities both offer import features for banks and individual presets.

Bear in mind that many vendor patches will usually require loading specific IRs, which is also done through the respective editor utility. Some are packaged as "preset bundles," which can be loaded with preset+IR together.

Best bet is to download the product manuals, and do some toilet reading - there's lots of good youtube videos as well. For Fractal, check out Leon Todd and Cooper Carter's work. https://axefxtutorials.com/ is also a goldmine, although not currently maintained/updated.
