undoubtedly some operator error going on here.

I'm using the "trial/free", DSP SLO Plugin.. love the way it sounds.... but getting a bunch of noise (snapping and crackling and popping). need some advice on getting this out of the mix.

I've got my output set to ASIO, i had to drop my samples way down as i was getting a lot of latency.
i'm running it on my dell laptop. doubt it's the specs on the laptop as it's only a year or so old.
the chain: Laptop/USB -> 2i2Scarlet ->EH 5MM power amp -> 212 cab

appreciate it!

You dropped your sample rate or buffer rate? Sample rate should match between your daw and interface, start there. If you are getting lots of crackles and pops, try moving the buffer size up to 128 or 256, that’s the next move.3rd, check your input levels: the scarlet stuff is notorious for clipping ultra easily, and check the input on the plugin itself as well.

What VES said. I will add that if you don't get the artefacts with a larger buffer size then you have your answer.

You can track with low latency and put up with the noise, then max out the buffer for playback / mix.
