I was in an electronic repair shop in Lowell Ma (scary neighborhood) once and they had a letter (on the wall !) that said Peavy Vypyrs were NOT to be repaired. This was FROM Peavey...so take your chances.

price range ? what's 'fairly economical' for some is not for others.

Trying to keep it as close to $500 as I can

They don't get alot of love around here, but I'd checkout a Peavey Triple XXX. I've had one for years, and it's never given me ANY trouble. I mean I've never even had to change a fuse! Very versatile, and cheap! You can get'em all day long for under $500.
