Ok here is the deal, got a peavey ultra+ head that was recently serviced for some blown screen grid resistors and a couple of fried wires....got the amp back, put some new sovtek wxt+ tubes i had bought for it and ALL 4 are redplating....
now if i put the old tubes back in they run normal, or i also put a quad of winged C 6L6 i had in another amp and those run without red plating also....what could be the problem for all 4 sovteks to run like that? could it be that i ordered late breakup tubes for the amp and somehow that is the cause of the problem?
what makes me wonder is that if i take the sovtek wxt+ and put them in my peavey vtm120 they seem to run fine, and dont redplate at all... HELP!!!

When I put new tubes in I always turn the bias to it's lowest setting and adjust from that point, what are the new sovtek wxt+ reading on the meter

the ultra plus (and vtm also) are fixed bias ...... i dont have a meter to check the tubes, but as i mention, they sound fine in the vtm and dont seem to redplate at all

the ultra plus might have a narrower fixed bias range than the vtm, and the sovteks are too hot not falling in the proper range for the ultra plus, at least the tubes are good and can be used in the vtm

yeah but i was debating if i should put my expensive winged c tubes in the ultra plus and not be afraid of them dying suddenly, i really love those power tubes in that specific amp
